I've owned three GloMates. Only one works. The first had a problem with the charger base. The metal pieces of the charger base are flimsy and they broke, so the GloMate unit could not be charged. The replacement for that one still works. So, I decided to buy another for my other child. This one worked for 2 hours, and now it won't light up, and I have no idea why. There's something rattling around inside. It was maybe dropped once, but you would expect that something made for kids would be sturdier. Previously, I owned the first generation Mobi TykeLight. I didn't have problems with that, but eventually the battery wouldn't take a charge and the AC connection to unit became loose so you couldn't even use it while plugged in. I just thought it was normal wear and tear, and maybe it is, but maybe it's poor craftsmanship. Still, I'm going avoiding this company's products in the future. They just seem cheap.
Originally, the reason I kept going back to this product was the design; it looks very modern and welcoming. Also, the GloMate has several lighting options, and it is sufficiently bright without being overpowering. But, if it doesn't work then it's not much good at all, obviously.
I've since tried a KinderGlo product, and this works better. It is identical to the TykeLight in so many ways (charger base design; color & timing options) that it must use similar or identical parts, and probably made in the same Chinese factory. So far, the KinderGlo works fine. The base, while very similar in design, is heavier than the Mobi TykeLight charger base. Also, the KinderGlo device itself is much softer, which is nice.
