Convenient at security, but inefficient space use,

This is one of the very few TSA approved Laptop bags that allow you pass airport security quickly. You just open a zipper and the bag flaps open with one part holding the Laptop only and the other part holding whatever you put in the other compartments. It's easy to handle and saves indeed some hassle at the airport.
The downside of this bag is its inefficinet space use. It's a very large backpack (16 x 2 x 11.5 inches) and reserves unnecessarily ample space (about 16 x 1.5 x 11.5 inches) for the Laptop compartment. You are not allowed, however, to put anything else there, so a lot of space is lost. That's a pity because MobileEdge could have designed the Laptop compartment much slimmer which would have left more space for books, paper etc. I also miss a strap at each side that support the zipper when your backpack is really stuffed.

Great product,

This backpack is great. I have my 17 inch MacBook Pro inside a neoprene sleeve for extra protection (probably overkill) and it fits perfectly inside the computer pouch of the backpack. Zip it open and the pack lays flat on the xray belt at the airport. No hassles from the airport security and no more removing the computer from the bag. That in itself pays for this bag. One security agent thought I was removing my computer as I was unzipping it and when I just laid it flat he immediately recognized the symbol on the bag and the big letters "Checkpoint Friendly" on the pouch. We both chatted about the fact that you don't have the aggravation of removing the computer anymore. There are enough pockets to load all your other stuff as well. I tend to take along more than I really need. Fits easily into the overhead or under the seat. The material is strong and it carries comfortably well.

This laptop backpack has lots of pockets for all of the accessories that must travel with a computer (power cords, mouse, etc.). The bag itself is a little larger than I would have expected but it does have to fit my 17" laptop. It is well padded. It lays flat for being x-rayed with the use of a single zipper. I would recommend this bag.

Replaced a Targus case. Room for everything and a Dell 17" laptop.
Carries well - nice straps. Supposedly "airport friendly" haven't tried that, yet.

I've only had the pack about a month and have been to two countries on a hectic schedule. I am very pleased with the mobile edge backpack.
I especially like the laptop feature because all I have to do is put it on the table and unzip it. All of the other items (there are many) flip to the other side and the whole thing goes through the scanner easily. It also had a large label that tells the TSA agents that it approved so that stops unnecessary searches. It is also much easier to put on and take off than my previous pack. There are multiple pockets and the pack has so much storage space that I is difficult to find items at times. The small, inside, pockets are handy for small items. I expect to use this item for many years

This laptop backpack is great! It took me a while to figure out what to put in all the pockets! The hidden bottle pocket is excellent, even though I didn't use it on my first trip. I went through three airports with my new backpack in December 2008. "ScanFast" and "Checkpoint Friendly" are very accurate terms (most of the time)! I only had one TSA officer, at the Quad City International Airport (Moline, Illinois), ask me to take my laptop out of the backpack. I didn't argue with him, but I did tell him that he was the only one to request this out of several officers at three different airports who had seen the backpack. I pointed out the "Checkpoint Friendly" compartment, and told him about the instructions that came with it, telling me not to put anything other than the laptop in that part of the backpack. He said more than once that TSA doesn't advertise the backpack, and that I would've been better off with one of those laptop "sleeves." I just think he didn't get the memo!

TSA Laptop Bag,

I recently bought and travelled with this backpack and laptop through airport security. All the TSA agents loved it. In fact they thought it was so great, they stopped me and wrote down the brand and wanted to know where I got it. Of course after going through the checkpoint without having to take my laptop out of the bag, they made me open it up to show them how my laptop fit it, the other compartments etc. There is a lot of space for all computer accessories, paperwork, and other carry-on items. It's prerry comfortable to carry on your shoulders even when its heavy and crammed with stuff and it's nice to have you hands free to carry other items. Would definitely recommend for travelling.

This is a great laptop bag which holds my 17" laptop with plenty of room to spare. I love the little pockets for SD cards and the like. Also a couple of pockets for thumb drives. Not really an "overnight bag" for your clothes/shoes as it's not got any large compartments for such. However, it's a very good bag for your computer & all the peripherals. Looks well constructed and feels comfortable on my back. I've had other TSA approved laptop bags and they are VERY helpful in the airport security lines. It's so nice to just unzip and leave your laptop in the bag. So far I give the bag a B+ rating. Will update when I've had the bag for a while.

I chose this bag because the measurements in the description were big enough for my ASUS G73JW, a 17" laptop with a wide base. On the good side, I like the pockets and am able to fit my Kindle (and charging cord), both Nintendo DSiXL and Nintendo 3DS (along with games for each and a charging cord), and a 1" work binder along with computer wires and mouse (I'm using the bag while moving from England back to America so I've tried to pack in a lot of entertainment). On the bad side, when it was delivered I found out the laptop pouch isn't as wide as the rest of the bag. After removing the pouch and restitching only the left and right side of the pouch to the canvas sides of the bag, I am now able to fit my computer into the slot and zip the bag properly, however anyone who doesn't want to do their own sewing should not get this bag for a laptop bigger than 16 or 16.5 inches.I did notice that the measurements in the description was updated on the listing for the bag, so there may be two different sized bags with similar prices. The bag I received is the picture with two side-by-side zippered pockets in the front and not the picture of one small zippered pocket on top of a medium sized zippered pocket in the front (pictures for both styles are shown for the same listing). I actually really like the look and design of the bag I received, however the company really should think about making the laptop area the full width of the bag, rather than taking away that extra 1-1.5".

Compartments could be better,

I like the backpack, but have a few reservations. The pockets are a bit random. They don't seem to have a specific purpose but rather a just a bunch of pockets. They are the wrong size for many things. The laptop compartment is too big, the strap is huge so it is always velcro'd way down at the bottom of the pocket so it is hard to reach to detach it. The water bottle zipper/holder is a great idea, but the mesh bag that fits the water bottle is too small (not deep enough) so the water bottle is always toppling out on to the ground. The zipper tags are too cheap. They pull off. If you grab the tag to unzip the zipper and happen to grab the plastic piece attached to the rope/cord by glue then it could pull off leaving you with a zipper without a tab/tag to pull on. Bag is nice to go through security with, but I like a smallish, shallow pocket to carry my travel documents in and this backpack case doesn't really have such a compartment.
Update: 5/10/2011 I sent an email to Mobile Edge complaining about the brokend zipper pull tags. They responded within a few hours and sent out two new zipper pull tabs in the mail that I received today. Very good customer service! |
