This review is from: Mobile Edge Premium Backpack Black MEBPP1 (Personal Computers)
I have had the backpack for about 3 years and all I can say is it is very close to perfection. I had done a lot of research prior to buying it and it paid off. The combination of features it truely unique. The material is very sturdy and looks like new even after 3 years of daily use. I had read a lot of reviews about other nicely looking backpacks which were unusable after 6 months due to cheap (but beautiful) material. The laptop compartment has protection on _all_ sides including the bottom. My IBM T41 fits easily. The backpack is big but doesn't look like you are about to go mountain hiking - there is plenty of room for books, folders, lunch box etc. Cell phone pocket is a nice touch. There is a belt you can fasten if you have to run to catch a bus or a train. I only have two minor complaints. I wish it had better organizer for pencils, calculators etc - the one it has consists of 3 basic pencil holders which are not able to hold anything thinner than half an inch and two big mesh pockets. Another thing, I whish the outer pockets were better designed i.e. instead of one horizontal pocket it had two vertical ones and the side pockets were bigger to hold water bottle, small umbrella etc. I looked at other backpacks with better outer pockets but all of them weren't even comparable to this one in terms of all other features.

The Mobile Edge Premium Backpack is quite possibly one of the finest packs that have ever graced my shoulders. However, when I received the pack the color was not what I had in visioned. I bartered my pack to one of my close friends and immediately bought the exact same pack except in black/silver. Call me picky, call me OCD, it just seemed to suite her better than myself ;-). I will try to highlight all the points which sold me on this product, along with the discrepancies I find with the pack. Let's begin with the appearance.
The pack is by no means a small backpack. It appears large because is capable on carrying a 17" laptop with accessories and a couple of college level text books. However, the pack appears to be designed to be low profile, similar to that of motorcycle equipment. This model in particular is very bright and vibrant. The color is described on the website as "green" however I found (along with several of my friends and associates) to be more of a yellow color. Due to the material used it was also quite reflective, an excellent quality for pedestrians and bicyclists. This is where one my one major gripe about the pack comes into play. The colors portrayed in the pictures are much brighter than they appear to be in pictures. The silver/black model I purchased following this pack is not very bright, though still reflective and thus aesthetically pleasing to me. This pack fits well on most people. My friend, whom I bartered the model to is on the shorter side and it still seems to work for her as well. Storage: There are two large storage areas which allow for most anything a student needs. There are several quick access pockets found on the exterior of the pack as well. Virtually every pocket has some kind of padding/protection, excellent for the tech savy who coincidentally, are paranoid about their gadgets. Overall its a very comfortable pack which can be worn very close to the body or with some slack. There is ample padding on the straps and back area to reduce vibrations and ensure a comfortable walk or ride. It is also nicely ventilated which helps to keep you from getting too hot. I recommend this pack to anyone who has to carry a laptop.

This backpack fits my Dell XPS Gen2 like a glove and also has plenty of space for other peripherals and/or books. Excellent style and functionality. Very comfortable even with the bag containing my laptop and textbooks. Definitely get this if you are planning on getting a large laptop!

I wish to thank Targus and Amazon. I went cheap and bought the Targus
TXL617 17 XL Back pack. It was about $18 dollars cheaper and I'm a trying to save pennies (aren't we all?). After traveling less than one week with the Targus, the flap clip broke and had a problem with the main zipper (workmanship). Amazon refunded the entire cost, so I order the Black premium. Boy, am I glad. The workman ship is a heck of a lot better! The straps are a whole lot sturdier and WAY more comfortable. This is an understatement! Here's the rub, a friend has the same model Targus, but it was well over a year old, they went cheap on the newer model and the workmanship has changed for the worst. I based my original purchase on the older model (with same model number) because of HIS experience and recommendation. He also agreed, the newer version was lower quality and they removed some cool features. He's now eyeing the ScanFast Checkpoint Friendly Backpack, even though his Targus is still in good shape (guilt maybe). Never owned a Mobile Edge before, but the saying "you get what you pay for" has hit me hard (in a good way). The Premium also has better protection than the Targus. I knew the Premium has more padding from reviews, but I thought it would have a lot less space because of this. I'm darned stoked to be proven wrong. I can still fit a Pavilion DV7-2xxx (17.3") into a Caselogic PLS-17 Sleeve with the Power Supply/mouse into the padded backpack holder! The HP DV7 is 16.2 x 10.9" and with added bulk of the sleeve, P/S & Mouse in the zippered sleeve pocket, it fit like a glove. Tight enough to not need the Velcro strap, but can still slide the lappy in and out easy. Thanks to Mobile Edge's competition, my investment in Premium Backpack has made me a happy camper. It will also hold a whole bunch of tech gear, and all the cables in one neat package. I do not work for Mobile Edge or been fired by Targus.

This thing has more pockets than I can find stuff for. ie., I have a place for everything. It will fit my 17" HP d7 laptop. It has a strap that extends to fit the larger laptops to keep it secure. I have a friend that has a 18" laptop and it fit as-well. The sleeve that the laptop fits down into is extra padded for ultimate protection for your laptop. If you are looking for a backpack to fit both your laptop and some books this is the one for it. I have had my laptop in it and gone to Krispy Kreme donuts and purchased one of those half dozen boxes that the donuts lay flat in and slipped the box down inside the backpack and then zipped it all up and headed off to where I needed to go. When I got there and pulled the box of donuts out, the box was unbent. Donuts perfectly preserved. Of course the laptop being in its own little padded pouch was perfect. This thing has the room for laptop and books as I have tried that as well. It has a little place for pens as-well so they don't get lost. All in all this backpack has something for everyone.
I did have one problem with the zipper though. Two days after I received it the zipper got caught on the fabric lip and tore when I was trying to get it off the fabric. This is why I only gave it three stars. For those that buy this make sure that the fabric is out of the way before you zip it as the zippers are heavy duty zippers. Of course this could happen to any backpack manufacturer or brand backpack. I would let it deter you from buying this backpack. If I ever need a laptop backpack again. I know to buy Mobile Edge...

Sometimes good, sometimes bad, this thing is huge. Great for long trips, but can be a bit cumbersome when just using as a laptop bag for work. Overall it's high quality with lots of spaces for lots of stuff. When I bought it, they were offering a $20 rebate from the manufacturer, which I actually received promptly! Mobile Edge keeps their word.

After a lot of searching I decided to order this pack for my 17" Alienware laptop computer. Since the computer is LARGE and heavy I wanted something that would make carrying it easier. The computer fits with room to spare. There are several items I like about the backback. The power brick and cords fit nicely in the bottom zippered area, balancing the weight better in the pack. I also carry an external backup drive, my iPad and pens, CDs and books in the second zippered area. I had been using a breifcase style carrier and all of this "stuff" made me feel like I was carrying a suitcase every where I went. The pack distributes the weight very well and frees my hands for other uses, like opening doors! There is a padded area for your computer with an elastic strap that hold it in place. There are 2 small compartments on the side that I use for my mouse, glasses, earbuds and just about anything else I need. I have yet to take it on a trip, but I believe it will do exactly what I want.

It's a big bag, but it works for the 17-18" laptops,

I hated to give up my old bag (a BBP Hamptons) which was perfect for me, but I bought an 18" screen Dell laptop and it just wouldn't fit. I bought this one based on what I saw on Amazon and the clear statement it would hold a laptop the size of my new one. When it arrived, it was clear that the laptop would fit and be adequately padded. I guess I just hadn't imagined how truly large a bag it would be. This is a like a full camping backpack, so there's plenty of room for books, cords, power unit. It has several smaller pockets and some internal hooks and pen holders, etc. But it's a *big* backpack.
One complaint I have is that there is a large flap that comes down and buckles on both sides. So you have to unbuckle this flap to get to the zippers of the pockets. I'm not sure what purpose the flap serves, but for me it's just one more step to get to my stuff. Esthetically the colors (silver over black) are cool enough, nothing extraordinary or cutting edge. In sum: this is a big packpack that holds big laptops with comfortable straps and padding. For the price it's a much better deal than Tumi bags, etc. And it travels well enough on planes---I can get it under the seat. But be careful--it's easy to fill it up with a lot of stuff which will make it heavy to carry.

This pack is the best pack I have ever owned. It is very well built....far better than Targus or Swiss.
I travel on 4 planes per week and have gone through many packs, until I got this one. Mobile Edge makes great products. I beg that you come out with a pack that can fit the Lenovo W700ds.
