good, but wait.,

Well, I pre-ordered this item and just got it on the 10th. Disc 1 is very engaging, it's a good series, different from the rest of the gundam's animation, which could be considered good or bad for some people who are harsh on animation. Fight scenes are good. Time has allowed more action sequences seen, unlike gundam wing and those before it where it's the same like beam saber slash, sandrock slashing through two leos, etc. Pretty good so far on the character development. English voices are very good, bandai imo does an excellent job staying close to the actual translation. I found Lacus's english voice to be annoying compared to the japanese voice, and the songs she sings in english arent the same lyrics, even though it doesn't show her lip movement singing them. So, hmm, wtf. The other characters are great, so it's unfortunate that I have to switch back just to hear lacus in japanese at times lol.
There are glitches on the discs so I'd recommend not buying it until they issue fixed discs. Episodes 9, 10, 14, 24, 25 all experienced lock up/freeze problems. My laptop dvd player wouldn't even play disc 2, my desktop did though and only locked up on the episodes that were bugged. Check bandai's website to see when they issue the new ones and then pick it up imo. It's a good price for the first half of the series. If you did buy this already and experience the same problems I did, call bandai and they will send you an email with the info on how to return the dvds and address. cost me $3.45 for like 3 seed discs and 3 gundam wing discs i had problems with. should take about a week and a half to get the new ones back to me.

Same issues with discs.
Just wanted to confirm with everyone, just like the previous reviews. This is not the only series Bandai has had problems with disc being faulty.

The Power of the Seed,
This review is from: Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Anime Legends Collection 1 (DVD)
The rating is based on the anime itself mainly, not the boxset. It came out in January and people have reported problems with their sets through at least May. It's August and if there's still problems that's pretty sad. The show is still available in individual volumes if it's that big a deal.
The Gundam franchise for the majority of fans, at least in the U.S. has been hit and miss. There are fans who only like the series that are based in the universal century (ex: Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam). Then there are those who like Gundam Wing and the movie Endless Waltz, nothing else! Finally there are those like me who give every Gundam show a fair shake. The first half of episodes for the series is similar to the original Mobile Suit Gundam. It borrows a lot of concepts for the plot, it is by no means a remake. Like Gundam Wing there are always five Gundams present in the overall plot, more get introduced later. There is a war going on between the Earth Forces (Normal Humans on earth) and ZAFT (Genetically enhanced super humans called "Coordinators" living in space colonies called Plants). ZAFT has been dominating the Earth Forces until the first episode on a neutral colony where the Earth Forces have developed five Gundams. A Special ZAFT team called "Team Creuset" manage to sneak in the colony and still four of the five Gundams. One of the two main characters Kira Yamato, a civilian pilots the fifth Gundam, 'the Strike.' Kira is faced with two problems however, he is a Coordinator who just wants to protect his four natural (human friends), but he must protect the Archangel, a military ship he and his four friends are forced to escape on from their dieing colony as well, making him a part of the Earth forces. Secondly his childhood friend, the other main character Athrun Zala is not only a soldier of ZAFT, but a part of Team Creuset as the pilot of the Aegis Gundam. The 25 episodes in this set are of the characters living on the Archangel ship evading Team Creuset and other factions of ZAFT trying to destroy them and steal the Strike Gundam, first in space and then on earth. The plot doesn't really go beyond that until the second half of the series. There is a wide range of minor characters who take awhile to get down. The Positive: The animation is the greatest ever seen in a Gundam series up to this point and the fights are fun to watch. The plot, the characters interacting make the show addictive at times. The Theme Song Music is really good if you like Japanese music. The Negative: Really all the disc problems reported over the set. The reason why the show is called Gundam "Seed' is because Kira Yamato can access a special power called the Seed which allows him to fight in a berserker mode in really tough battles. Coordinators are the only ones that can do this. Ultimately if you haven't seen this I reccomend you check out the first few volumes or do what I did and check out the first special edition movie which covers the first 21 episodes, all the key parts put together into a movie. Go into it with an open mind.

Great series, but defective discs.,

I read the other reviews before purchasing this set. After seeing the dates of the posted reviews, I was hoping the problem would be fixed by now. Unfortunately, I am experiencing the same issues with disc 2. Its been a while since I have watched a Gundam series, and had forgotten how fast paced and engaging the series can be. So far I am very impressed with SEED. I would give it more stars if all the discs played.

Great Show Crap DVDs,

This is the best Gundam i've seen yet. I really like the characters and the drama between the two friends having to fight one another. The story behind Kira Yamato makes it more realistic that he can just jump in a pilot the Gundam without any military training. It is just like every other Gundam series but this is one I would watch over and over again.
The bad part is that Bandai is a terrible company in my eys (at least with the manufacture of dvds). I've read so many reviews of various other anime series that have defective discs. So far disc 5 will only work in my computer and only the first 3 episodes work. Disc 2 and 4 only read a few episodes in all my dvd players and my computer. I have had no luck trying to contact Bandai for replacments by e-mail or phone. I would have rated this a 5 because the series is one the best animes i've ever seen but because of Bandai and it terrible customer service and product quality I gave it a low raiting.

Bad Discs,

Ok seeing the reviews here I can see why so many people are upset about this DVD box set. I have both sets of this series and I have to admit. I cant play them on my computer so I switch to a Playstation 2 and even then ONLY 1 DISC fully worked. I made it to episode 9 before I was told unable to read disc.
How is it you can sell a faulty disc and not think about reviewing this issue. Needless to say I am unable to return the faulty sets due to the fact I finally recieved them the SAME WEEK the return policy went up. Guess that is just a defect of being stationed in Iraq. Either way I am out 60 bucks cause your company obviously does not think that quality is better than quantity.

Gundam with heart,
By

I consider myself a very big fan of Gundam and I believe that these series is one of the best I've seen. It has the mecha design that fans have come to love and it has a lot of great character development. You can't help but feel for the plight of Kira and Athrun. Two friends who are forced to fight one another. Even secondary charcters are given realistic personalities and responses (i.e. Flay). For a series with mecha and a heart for the charcters you could do worse than see Gundam Seed. *Note: Got my set before Christmas and had no problems with defective disks*

great show, messed up discs,

Like my title, the show is great, but I have returned two sets with the same results. The discs are scratched and the shows stutter. I am very dissapointed. Please take my advice and steer clear of this set for now. You will regret getting an anime you can't watch because of such a horrible packaging job.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm,
This review is from: Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Anime Legends Collection 1 (DVD)
Well, this DVD set is a nice concept and all, but like previous reviews I to have had problems with the fifth disk. I got through all the other disks with no problem and even got through the first 3 episodes of the fifth disk but then it wouldn't play the last 2. Rather dissappointing when you're so close to the end.
I would say pass this set up since bandai has faulty disks in this set. One idea for people to do is to buy this set and then just buy the fifth disk by itself but that would only be assuming that they don't fix this set up. For the most part the faulty disk is just the fifth one but a few people have had trouble more than just the fifth. The show itself isn't the best in the gundam series, it's filled with way to much drama for my tastes, but none the less is still a good anime. If the set didn't carry faulty disks I would say buy it but think about it before you do. |
