Product Description
EasyTether
Detailed instructions with every step

EasyTether shares your Android smartphone connection with your PC. This handy app from Mobile Stream allows you to tether your Android to a desktop or notebook computer. EasyTether uses exactly the same data plan that you already use for your on-phone internet access, and your USB connection ensures a fast transfer speed. Access your built-in browser, e-mail, and YouTube applications with no additional tethering or broadband fees.

Compatible Across Platforms

EasyTether works with all carriers including Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T. This app supports Windows, Mac, and Ubuntu operating systems. While you're tethering your Android phone to your PC, you will also appreciate the tethering capabilities for your PS3, XBox 360, or Wii via Windows Internet Connection Sharing. The app's UDP support for games extends to L2TP VPN and some IM apps, as well.

Easy Setup Process

Unlike other apps that touch your phone at the system level, EasyTether does not require rooting, which is great news for AT&T customers as well as everyone else, since you save the time, extra downloading, and complications associated with rooting a phone. This app only uses official, certified APIs to protect your phone's security. Just follow the on-screen instructions, make sure your computer has your phone's latest driver, and if you have any questions, one click sends you through to your answers in the developer's detailed FAQ.

Smart Connection Solution

Whether an emergency requires immediate internet access or data transfer, you don't have access to a strong WiFi connection, or you simply want to avoid the high cost of wireless broadband, using your 3G or 4G coverage by tethering your phone saves you time and frustration. When you use hotel WiFi services, your internet connection often slows to a crawl, and simple transfers that should require mere seconds may take several minutes.

One license is tied to one phone, so you may install the computer-side software on as many computer systems as you need. The easiest way to setup another computer for EasyTether is to re-run the setup wizard in the smartphone-side application. EasyTether frees your netbook, laptop, or desktop computer while you wait at the airport or take a road trip, and it may save you between $30 and $70 per month in broadband charges wherever you need to access an internet connection.

Product Reviews

"EasyTether Pro takes your hand and walks you gently into Tetherland. You'll be tethering with this app for years to come, as long as your carrier still offers unlimited data. While the setup prcoess may be a bit tricky for the least tech savvy, most users will be up and tethering in no time. Tether on my friends. 9.5/10" - Ben Freed, App Rundown

"While EasyTether involves a bit more work than rooted tether apps, it is a nice solution for people that can't or don't want to root their phones." - Ed Clark, Androinica

"Overall, EasyTether is a great app to have. It is very useful and since it is USB enabled it will not drain your battery. The speed is excellent even though it is coming from a smartphone. I suggest that you go Pro for $9.99 just because it will allow you to access websites that you will probably need to access anyway (HTTPS)." - The Good Find

5.0 out of 5 stars Best App Out There! July 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Not long ago I downloaded the free version of EasyTether and took it for a test drive. Simply put, this app is excellent. It's simple to install and simple to use. Adding the EasyTether driver to your PC is equally simple. Three minutes after I installed this app I was up and running. I'm using this app as my notebook's internet connection to submit this review. I found this app at half price on the Amazon App Store today so I went ahead and paid for the full version (which allows access to the whole internet, including 'https://' secure URLs).

As a utility app like this should, it stays unobtrusively in the background. To use, simply plug your phone into a USB port on your notebook or PC, start the EasyTether app, select 'USB - Enable to allow USB tethering', and then start the PC-side driver program (I keep that program in my system tray for easy, instant access. I right click on the tray icon, select "Connect via Droid X", and off I go!).

The one area people may have a problem with is speed. I normally use RoadRunner broadband with between 7 and 10 Mbps throughput, with bursts up to 20 Mbps. Using speedtest.net to test connection speed with EasyTether, I find that throughput speeds are very slow in comparison - averaging .46 Mbps download and .38 Mbps upload speeds over the course of three tests. (Droid X uses 3G; 4G speeds will probably be considerably faster - also, 3G signal where I live is not full-strength). In other words, at least for me, speed is about 20 times less than my wired broadband connection. When you watch Youtube videos or other high-bandwidth type streaming media, unless you put the media on "pause" until it's fully loaded, it is a bit herky-jerky as playback is paused while more video data is buffered. It hearkens back to the days of telephone line dialup connections, in a way. However, this is not a problem for me as I was simply looking for a way to occasionally access the internet on my notebook when I am in areas where there is no WiFi signal. Of course, your experience may vary.

One word of caution. Unless you are enrolled in an unlimited data plan, keep an eye on your data usage if you use EasyTether on a regular basis. Otherwise, you may get a nasty surprise when your next cell-phone bill arrives.

In summary, this is quite simply the best app I have found to date for my Droid X. No muss, no fuss, and it does exactly what it says. Even at full price, this is a bargain for people who are looking for this kind of functionality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Works March 22, 2011
By Russ B
I've been using EasyTether for over a year now. Even after 2.1 come out which allowed you to tether, because with Verizon you have pay a monthly fee to use the built in tethering.

For those who say you're stupid to use this because you can just root your phone... that might be fine for you, but some of us don't want to recommend to a family\friend who might not be that tech savvy that they root their phone simply to be able to tether. To me, $10 is worth the hassle to NOT have to root your phone.
