Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Naive ensign Kuo Uraki hones his skills as a mecha pilot, receives a promotion to lieutenant, endures his comrades' teasing, and tries to understand his nascent relationship with engineer Nina Purpleton. The Zeon, led by Kuo's arch-enemy Gato and the sinister Commander Cima, strike at the Federation forces during a pretentious naval review. Attacking the area known as the Sea of Solomon (a reference to a fiercely fought section of the South Pacific during World War II), they vaporize the asteroid island of Konpei and stage a collision between two gargantuan space colonies. Director Toshihiro Kawamoto balances some extremely well choreographed Gundam battles in space with character moments, making this 13-part TV series one of the most popular entries in the Gundam continuity. Stardust Memory is set between the end of the original Gundam and the sequel Gundam Z. Rated 13 Up: Violence, profanity, risqué humor, alcohol use. --Charles Solomon

5.0 out of 5 stars Bandai never disappoints..., July 8, 2002

This review is from: Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 - Stardust Memories (Vol. 3) (DVD)
Once again Bandai delivers the goods with their latest Gundam DVD release. Excellent subtitling, crisp and rich picture quality that doesn't suffer from poor compression/artifacts and a nice looking DVD cover...Why doesn't everyone release their anime with this level of excellence? Who knows...

This OVA(Original Video Animation) fits in between the original MS Gundam(0079-0080) and Z Gundam(0087) series. It was one of the first series in the Gundam universe to not involve New types and focus on the grunt eye view of MS battle. The story is hard military space opera...young soldiers caught in the aftermath of the 1 year war are forced to grow up fast while the world around them falls apart and all their illusions of duty and glory are shattered.

The animation is excellent. With rich colors, reminiscent of many Toei productions in the early/mid 80's, and highly detailed robots screaming through space...many consider 0083 to be the best animated Gundam of all time....

I would recommend all the discs of this series. This is the kind of work that has attracted me to anime as far back as the 70s.

About the only thing I could ask for would be slightly nicer menus. They are pretty generic...but that's really my only "gripe".

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than Gundam Wing!, June 21, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 - Stardust Memories (Vol. 3) (DVD)
0083 is my favorite gundam series and its one of the most successful animes' in the 80's. The story, animation, sound effects and the music is excellently done well. The story is very despressing and sad to watch. This series on dvd is definatly worth to buy and its uncut.
