I'll start the reveiw by saying that this film has been redone in Dolby High Quality Format and picture. Now on to the review. Chars Counterattack takes place 13 years after the events of the origional Gundam sereis(with Char in his thirties, and Amuro in his twenties). Char has made his own allegiance called Neo Zeon, and plans to drop an asteroid on Earth causing a nuclear winter, ushering a new age of Mankind in space. Amuro now piloting the exclusive, and powerful Nu Gundam must stop Chars plans once and for all. Thats right!! The Amuro/Char rivalry that has taken the world by strom ends here!! This movie will keep you at the edge of your seat with the suspence,and robot UFC meets Star Wars type action. Like all the other gundam sereis, there's a huge lesson learned at the end about humanity, war, & people in general. This movie also has an excillent ending. Here's a hint, it's not your ordinary, live happily ever after ending. Chars Counterattack garnishes a 5/5 from me, for ending one of the best rivalries i've seen seince Darth Vader & Luke Skywalker. Big Ups.

Honestly,
I love Gundam. This is a little far-fetched at times, realistically speaking...But if you wanted to be realistic, you wouldn't watch this right? It does conclude the the epic rivalry of Amuro And Char, adds an old Character or two and a bunch of others. Cool Mobile Suits and some nice combat between the main characters.
If you like Mobile Suit Gundam, Get it.
If you like Gundam in General, you might want to rent it or borrow it.
If this is your first dive into anything Gundam, you may not appreciate it and i recommend you check out the original series before watching this.

most likely the best stand alone Gundam movie in the entire series, particularly the UC time line. Features some really interesting new mobile suit designs and technology. The storyline is intriguing and the movie finally brings us the finale to the Char/Amuro rivalry. However, that finale isn't as absolute as I would have hope for such an intense rivalry.

Great movie at a great price... Buy it!

What more can I say than this is a prime example why Mobile Suit Gundam is amazing! If you are true Gundam fan, and know that Gundam Seed is a terrible joke, then you NEED to have this film. Yoshiyuki Tomino just makes another master piece for all to see by providing Japan, and the whole world with one of the most ground breaking anime series ever. The DVD is good quality, provides Japanese and English dub. If you're dying for Blu-ray, go cry a river. The DVD is just fine to experience this film. However if you do get blu-ray, make sure your TV isn't one of those stupid HD TVs that randomly speed up images (those should all be recalled!). True Gundam fans NEED this film, and thats that!

Even as a stand-alone anime movie, the animation, audio and story-driven plot are enough to make it a worth-while film. The fact that this is the last story to be told of Ace Pilots Amuro Ray and Char Aznable makes this film an absolute requirement of Gundam series fans to view (granted that they've seen them all from the original up through ZZ Gundam). Completely worth every penny, if you haven't seen it yet. I'd recommend the Gundam series to anyone interested in anything mecha or animes with great stories. The movie reflects the series' story-driven and rounded out character cast with the same mech combat any Gundam fan could expect.

This is one if not the best animated movie I have ever seen, the story is well developed ( if you've seen the previous gundam installments) well worth the money

This a great movie of the Gundam series, I been a fan for years and I'm please by the story.

I have long since given up hope on the Gundam franchise due to SEED destroying everything that made it interesting to me, but my love for the One Year War story persuaded me to pick this epic movie up. And man, was I surprised!

There are no needlessly flashy Gundams, no color changes, no characters who you believe are girls for 3 episodes before you find out it's a man! (purple haired guy from SEED) Nor are there any needlessly cheesy love stories that get in the way of the War's story.

This is the end of the original series, real tactics are used, the mobile suits look amazing, and the animation is beautiful for being an 80's film. Unlike so many Gundam things out now, you wont find any overpowered god-like Gundams, or BS excuses for tactics, but quite the opposite! This movie saved Gundam for me. 5/5 for one Hell of a conclusion to one of Anime's greatest stories!

Probably the best animated movie I have ever seen. If your not getting this cause of the animation quality, you've got something wrong with your head. This anime was made in 1988. Animation probably wasn't very good at the time, quite honestly I wouldn't know, but of the shows I've seen from that time, the animation is all about that same quality. The story of the movie continues Amuro and Char's rivalry as Char decides the earth needs to be destroyed with a meteor, because of our abuse to the environment. Or something.
Watch if your a Gundam fan, but if you haven't seen any Gundam, watch one of the series first, I suggest 0079 or Zeta Gundam.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack is one of the best looking movies without a doubt. Yoshiyuki Tomino recaptures the magic of the Gundam universe with politics, fast pace action and interesting characters. However, the treatment given to the iconic Char Aznable is downright despicable. In the original Gundam series Char is a person full of resentment and seems to rarely think with his brain. In Gundam Z Char returns very mature and becomes a great charismatic hero. Tomino elevates Char to god-like status in Z but throws away almost all the greatness in Char's Counterattack. Char is reverted to his resentful and vengeful attitude of the original Gundam series. For those who love Char, this movie is a stab in the back.

As an entertaining value the movie is great, but Char cannot be reduced to an ungrateful S.O.B. The quality of the movie is top notch, but the development of the main character is deplorable and ultimately makes the ending anti climatic. I love Gundam, but this movie threatens to tarnish its legacy.
