Product Description

Cosmic Era 73. The world is once again poised on the brink of war. Despite the best efforts of the Minerva and her crew, terrorists set the war memorial Junius Seven on a course that will cause it to fall out of its orbit and hit the Earth. The PLANTS get ready to defend themselves from what they perceive to be an inevitable retaliation by the Earth Forces. Meanwhile, back on Orb, the government debates about what to do in the wake of such a serious disaster, and Cagalli doesn't see eye-to-eye with her ministers. Sequel to the blockbuster hit Gundam SEED! Character designs by Hisashi Hirai. Genre: Action/Sci-Fi/Mecha.

As Destiny, the sequel to the popular Gundam Seed, continues, relations between the normal humans and the genetically enhanced Coordinators deteriorate. Renegade Coordinators disturb the orbit of the enormous monument, the Junius 7, positioning it to strike the Earth. Shin, Athrun, and other Mobile Suit pilots from the Earth and ZAFT work together to destroy as much of Junius as possible. Although they save the Earth from complete destruction, the devastation is still enormous--and precipitates a declaration of war from the Earth Alliance against ZAFT. The growing cries of the humans to purge the Coordinators from "our pure and blue world" can be read as a commentary on 21st-century politics. Athrun agonizes over the renegades' references to his father's ideas, but finds time to court Cagalli. Director Mitsuo Fukuda skillfully blends CG and traditional animation to give the space battles maximum pizzazz. But the story feels padded: The scene of Shin finding his sister's body appears at least once per episode. (Rated 13 and older: violence, brief nudity) --Charles Solomon

One of my favorite moments is when Lacus Clyne sings the song "Fields of Hope" as Junius 7 falls. Deeply moving. Written, composed and arranged by Yuki Kajiura, and sung by Lacus Clyne's Japanese voice actor Rie Tanaka, the original Japanese version of "Fields of Hope" is great. Unfortunately, no credits are provided for the English dubbed version of "Fields of Hope." Lacus's English singing voice sounds much closer to Lacus's English speaking voice in Gundam Seed Destiny than it does in Gundam Seed. But, to be frank, Lacus Clyne's English voice actor, Chantal Strand, is a terrible singer. I have heard her sing and that is DEFINITELY NOT Chantal Strand singing as Lacus Clyne. Another English voice actor, Jillian Michaels is generally recognized as Lacus's singing voice in Gundam Seed. But it does not sound like Jillian Michaels is the person singing "Fields of Hope" in Gundam Seed Destiny either. Bandai Entertainment and The Ocean Group should state who Lacus Clyne's singing voice in the English dub is or are. An alternative is to sing live and prove one is the real singer of a song - something which Milli Vanilli failed to do in their infamous fake singing scandal over a decade and a half ago.

Gundam seed is one of the more modernized Gundam entries. The 2 previous shows, Gundam wing and 08th MS Team were pretty good. Gundam Wing had okay animation, but the voice cast was bad on the english dub. 08th MS Team has ok voice acting, but the animation was kind rough. Gundam Seed has neither of these problems. It has really good animation and pretty good voice acting. The soundtrack is also really well done. The story is also more interesting. There are some major plot twists and some great conflicts between the characters. It definitely deserves the 2 seasons that it ran. With lots of great characters, a pretty in depth plot and high quality production it's definitely my favorite Gundam since the original. You should give it a chance. I hope you like it as much as I do.

For those of us who love Seed, this is a great disk! Be careful reading this, it may cause nail biting while you wait for the mailman!!! We see Junius-7's final hours, which causes alot of conflict for Athrun, Cagalli, and Shinn. Of course, we also see some old friends returning (check out the leader of the ground crew that's helping fix the Miranda), and of course, when he has a problem, who does Athrun turn to? (Hint - His name starts with a K...) But, who is that pink-haired girl that Athrun runs into in the Plants??? I know you're yelling at the TV - Hey,isn't she supposed to be in Orb with his best friend?! Is it REALLY Lacus? (check the hair ornament out, if you haven't already) I am eagerly awaiting the next disk, which will see the return of some more old friends, as well as possibly the biggest wedding crasher ever!!!
