A little history...

There used to be TWO versions of this program, Office Suite Viewer (a free version), and Office Suite Professional.

The FREE version, Office Suite Viewer, did not support certain fonts. It was free, so what did you expect? The Font Package allowed the free version to open documents
without losing formatting if the included fonts were in the document.

Office Suite Professional HAS ALL OF THE FONTS THAT ARE IN THE FONT PACKAGE:
Arial, Calibri, Cambria, Courier New, Symbol, Tahoma, Times New Roman, Veranda,
and Wingdings. You do NOT need to purchase the font package. Just create or open a document, go to "Format", and choose your font. Tadaa!

This app works great on the Kindle Fire HD 8.9. I've had no problem opening and editing documents
from a pc or the cloud (Google Docs).

5.0 out of 5 stars Kindle Fire Compatibility December 23, 2011
Verified Purchase
Kindle Fire owners, please note: I just bought the OfficeSuite Pro for my Kindle Fire and it works awesome! I am currently enrolled in an online college, so using Dropbox, I uploaded some papers from Microsoft Word and viewed them on my Kindle. It was quick and easy. I also created a quick document on my Kindle and pulled it up in Word. I opened up a template, edited it, saved it as a new doc, and it all worked very smooth and quick. I am very, very pleased! This just made my schedule a little easier to manage and a lot more convenient.

2.0 out of 5 stars Underhanded sales tactic June 11, 2012

Recommendation: Expect to pay an extra $5 if you plan to use most common fonts. Otherwise, the software seems functional.

Pros:
-Functioning Office Software

Cons:
-Tries to charge for common fonts such as Calibri, Arial, Times New Roman, Helvetica
-It is always running

At first glance, getting this app for $1 seemed like an incredible deal (1/15th of the usual price) considering it was a 4 star office suite. Without looking into it too much, I purchased it (my fault, I know). The company opted to leave out some of the most common fonts and charge $5 for them. They let you know that you're not getting all of the pie you paid for the first time you open the app. When you click to download the update they request to charge you $4.99. To me this screams, bait and switch.

UPDATE: 4/16/13

-Removed critique of permissions after seeing the reasons permissions are used. See link here for explanation (scroll to bottom): [...]
-added a star to rating to reflect the fact that I believe there is one less major issue with this software.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not happy April 4, 2012

Buyer beware: I purchased Office Suite Pro for my tablet so I could work off-line -- novel concept for the software because it will not let me do anything IF it cannot find the nearest WiFi Internet connection. What a complete waste of money and time. It would have been nice to know this before I purchased the app. Now I am hoping to find something else that is more user friendly and will enable me to work off-line because where I live WiFi is few and far between.

1.0 out of 5 stars Out of date when received November 28, 2011

Got the app for my kindle fire and the first thing it did was tell me there was a new version and that I needed to buy the new version. Amazon needs to look at this closer. Had it at 3 stars but then discovered that it runs constantly. Attempts to get some satisfaction/response from developer or from Amazon has been unsuccessful.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre June 11, 2012
By JOH
I got this today for $0.99 for my Kindle Fire, and at that price it is OK. This software has a number of problems, which I guess are rather typical of these wannabe MS compatible suites. Word and Excel files have subtle formatting issues, but not bad enough to be a show-stopper. Of course, it chokes on really complex spreadsheets, but you weren't serious about using them on your mobile anyway, were you? Things get more wobbly with Powerpoint presentations. Even moderate complexity causes trouble of various sorts, including failure to render essential items, making this a hit-or-miss experience. Worst, however, is the PDF viewing. It is simply inadequate. Even relatively simple files fail to render properly. Frequently, a message appears that the "page contains objects that cannot be displayed" - and one sees only a blank sheet. Or graphics are somehow corrupted, showing thick black paint in some places where line art is supposed to be. Also, the PDF viewer is very slow. Neither the Kindle Fire's built-in PDF viewer nor the one in Quick Office Pro have these issues. So, fail mark on that one.

Another turn-off are the constantly present upsells: buy a "font package" for $4.99 to "improve the look of your documents". Buy a mediocre dictionary for $21.99 (!!!). Please - get lost!

As I said, it's OK at $0.99, but I would not spend any more on this bug fest. Quick Office Pro is better, especially for PDF viewing, although not great either. Face it: you still need a real computer to work with office docs.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Complete Waste of Money December 28, 2012

Understanding that every user has different needs, some or none of what I say may apply to you. I needed this app to allow me to open, edit, and save my Microsoft Word documents in the same format as they were created. This app converts all documents to straight text, and all formatting and styles are lost. When I called Amazon tech support for help, I was told that the app is "basically a notepad." That was really discouraging, being that I paid $14.99 for it. If I want a straight text document, I could use Google Docs for free. Ironically, Google Docs supports Microsoft Word documents in all their glory. So, I feel I was ripped off. My loss, but the lesson was well learned.

How do you get this thing to go off?
Shawn, I had the same concern - but got referred to a developer website that explained how Android works. Apparently, the "running apps" listed aren't really running (unless you are actually using them), i.e. they aren't using any processor power, but are just sitting in memory, waiting... Read More
