MobileMe for Small business Portable Genius,

Very ood book. It has lots of good information as to how to use MobileMe. Especially conferences and group meetings. My only dissapointment was that it does not tell me how to sinchronize POP e-mail accounts (or if that can be doe) or how to connect to my Microsoft Outlook work e-mail through a VPN tunnel, despite tha fact that I have all the required passwords, including the secret word.

AVOID APLUS.NET for a domain registrar...,
By Ned Baker (Kasama, Northern Zambia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: MobileMe for Small Business Portable Genius (Paperback)
I read over this book in a bookstore and found it a very basic but useful outline of how MobileMe can be used for small businesses, however, I would ABSOLUTELY NOT USE APLUS.NET for a domain registrar, as the author suggests.
I was planning to buy a domain and foolishly followed their advice, learning the hard way that APlus.net has AWFUL customer service and support, and most importantly an incomplete product offering (for example: you have to set a CNAME to successfully host your site on MobileMe. This option is included standard through other domain registrars like GoDaddy, but APlus.net requires you to add a "Domain Monitoring" service at $6/year--most of which you won't need--just to have that necessary option to set a CNAME). I'd have gladly paid more for my domain registration if it meant having adequate service and support. Otherwise the author explains the MobileMe-hosting process correctly, but shoots itself in the foot in the most puzzling way by recommending a domain registrar that leaves much to be desired. Sorry to rate the whole book badly on this one point, but I'd expect the author to research this better and it completely erodes my trust in this and other works if they would make such a glaringly bad endorsement.

This has been a fabulous resource. I had no idea the various aspects of Mobile Me that can help me in my small business. I am frequently at the Apple store talking with employees, whether in a specific training appointment or on the floor, and they don't even know about stuff I learned in this book. Highly recommend it. I also now recommend any of the books in this series (Portable Genius) as I have had a very positive experience with all of them. Clear, straight forward, and loaded with super practical tips and guidance.

You can't beat the price. For APPLE how to books, all the series of Portable Genius books are a great value. Good size and color pages. As for this book, This one fills the void missing out there for detail MobileMe questions.

Misleading Product,

I recently convinced my wife to make the transition from PC to mac for her business. I finally persuaded her after investigating the abilities of Mobile Me to support basic small business functions. Those abilities are implied in the title of this book. Turns out Mobile Me does not do what she needs it to do. After speaking to Mobile Me support staff about these deficiencies their reply was that Mobile Me is a personal solution and that Apple does not advertise Mobile Me for small business'. They said to read the small print. It's stated in the disclaimer that Mobile Me is not designed as a business tool. So which IS it?. We were sold Mobile Me at the Apple Store as a small business product. This book title and Apple's marketing of this product is misleading! I've been an Apple user myself for years and the experience really changed my view of the company.
