I bought this not sure if the "old version" would work for renewing my exsisting individual account. I entered the code and it worked perfectly. For this discounted price I was able to renew my mobile me and upgrade to the family pack at the same time. A great deal!

For a little bit more than a single-user MobileMe account you get 4 additional MobileMe accounts... these are "junior" accounts only in the sense that they have 5GB of storage vs. 20GB. Otherwise they're identical to the single-user MobileMe (and, yes, the primary account on the Family Pack still gets 20GB).

MobileMe has come a long way in the 8 years since its debuted and is finally delivering great value. If you have an iPhone, the Find Your Phone feature is worth it by itself. But there's tons of other stuff-- syncing, a great email service (with the best webmail interface out there), easy file sharing (with a free iPhone client for accessing your file), easy photo sharing, and more.

If you split the costs 5 ways this becomes very affordable and even more worth it.

If you didn't know this already, these "old versions" of Mobile Me are simply the old boxes, and are no different than purchasing direct from Apple. There are codes in these boxes that give you the fully featured, fully current MobileMe experience at significantly lower prices.

The only negative aspect of this method is that you have to wait for the code to ship to you. If you are just starting a MobileMe account, and don't need it immediately, this is your best choice. If you are renewing and plan ahead (by ordering this a few weeks before you're set to expire), this is the best choice. If your current MobileMe expires tomorrow, this won't help you.

I don't understand the reason that the price for Apple software should be anything other than rock-bottom at the Apple Online Store, but I was surprised to find that I could get a better price through Amazon for a renewal of my MobileMe family pack. Purchase was painless, and the product was delivered as advertised.

My wife has had an active .me (.mac) account for years now. I had an accout too, but had not used it in years. I just couldn't justify spending almost $200 a year for two accounts, since I had been using a dell computer.

But I just got a new MacBook Pro (yeah!), so I wanted to get my .me account active.

I went to my wife's active account, and selected upgrade. Upgraded to a family pack, then added my old expired account. Because they pro-rate the upgrade it was only $21.52 to upgrade and now have two active accounts. BUT this only worked because my account was expired. If I had an active account, I would have had to let it expire before being able to add it to the family pack.

This is the best way to renew your mobile me account. Don't pay retail with Apple.

So much cheaper than purchasing Family pack from Apple. I bought it 4 weeks before my (old .Mac) .me account expires. Entered in the updated serial numbers and on the day my acct is due to expire I'm paid again for another year. Sure beats the $17.95 I kept paying for earthlink services for 10 years.

For over the last 3 years we've been very satisfied with .Mac or .me accounts. Only one time did we regret having the service - Apple's transition to the mobileme world, why??? iPhone mania I guess.

MobileMe allows Mac OS X users to do lots of cool things and, once you figure out the details, do them well.
It's pretty pricy for online storage of 20 GB (Family Pack) but it's almost always rock-solid and when it's not Apple extends your service date as compensation - this has only happened to me once when the transition from .Mac to MobileMe occurred.

This family pack is the exact same product as the family pack you will get if you purchase directly from Apple. The product is actually a service, all you are purchasing is the activation code inside.

This is an incredible value on MobileMe, because it is cheaper than the individual plan, and you can share the account with friends and family to get more usage out of it. I share this with a group of friends and my partner and it brings the cost to a nominal annual fee, about what I pay for a domain name.

The most indispensable features of Me include syncing of bookmarks, iCal, and contacts between my iMac, my Macbook Pro, my iPhone and my iPad (I am clearly immersed in the Apple ecosystem). I appreciate the free push email through MobileMe, and I have my gmail routed through MobileMe as a result. A lot of people dislike MobileMe's email because it locks you into an Apple solution. Then again, my gmail-hosted services are always going in and out of service, there are ads everywhere, I cannot send larger file attachments, and the archive-search from the iPhone isn't nearly as powerful with the free email hosting. Plus, when I want to use email at a public terminal on campus, I can work with my email with the same Apple aesthetic I am accustomed to.

I host my domain with my MobileMe account, and if you get this family plan then you can host five domains instead of just one. You should note, however, that Apple does not allow you to host websites with PHP or similar, so you cannot host a wordpress blog or anything like that. The good news is that you can easily set up iWeb to work with your MobileMe subscription for quick website creation, and you can even put up Google Adsense if you want. I get the most frequent use out of the MobileMe galleries, which are much nicer than those at Flickr or Facebook, and now that iPhoto '11 is out, it is even more functional.

But the thing that you cannot get anywhere else through any competing free or paid services is FIND MY iPHONE (or iPad). I can't believe how effective this thing is. Whenever I lose an iOS device, I can find it effectively. You should note, however, that if you have an old iPhone that no longer has a cellular subscription, the service is disabled for that product. If I lose my iPhone somewhere in the house, I can use another iOS device or Me.com to send a beep and a message to my phone, which works like a game of Marco Polo if you haven't tried it before.

Personally, I find that iDisk is severely lacking compared to its free competition, Dropbox. But it is getting better day by day. With the new versions of iWork apps on the iPad, you can edit and save documents that are stored in your iDisk, which gets around the iTunes syncing issue. Also, the Back to my Mac procedure is much easier if you have a MobileMe account, and I use the screen sharing feature quite often to help my relatives with computer issues.

All in all, I think that internet savvy users can probably find cheaper or free alternatives to MobileMe, at least in part, but is all that work worth it? Especially when you can bring the price down so low with a family pack deal like this on Amazon? MobileMe is a Steve Jobs joint in so many ways, because it splurges on the features that you'll love but you wouldn't think you'd ever need. Dive into the cloud and enjoy MobileMe!

I too was like the others, not sure if it would work.. I mean, at such a discounted price over Apple I thought, where's the catch? However there wasn't one! I had a trial MobileMe account that was about to expire so I bought this to upgrade to the full version and create an account for my wife. The "Old Version" didn't matter, worked like a charm. I went for the free, supposed to take forever shipping, and it still got here in 4 business days, kudos to the sender! Totally get this if you are considering a MobileMe account.
