5.0 out of 5 stars Worth a revisit! Disastrous launch but dramatically improved since.

1.0 out of 5 stars Less mobile than ever
I am yet another long-time Apple customer and formerly happy .Mac (the predecessor to MobileMe) subscriber who is extremely frustrated with MobileMe. The .Mac service did everything I wanted. MobileMe does not meet even my most basic needs.

In addition to all the problems already cited in these reviews, prospective customers need to be aware that MobileMe...

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth a revisit! Disastrous launch but dramatically improved since., October 26, 2008

I notice a lot of the reviews - particularly the negative ones - are dated in July of '08 when the service launched. I think it's important to write a fresh review of things as they stand now, at least for me.

I was one of the people who first tried MobileMe when it officially launched, and I almost immediately gave up on it. Horrible stability and reliability, and for two solid weeks straight, I couldn't even log into the service.

Then Apple began extending the trial periods, and after about month or so, I revisited MobileMe after the problems started to clear up. I can now say that MobileMe is VERY reliable and VERY worth using, in my experience.

I use mobileMe presently to sync my calendars and contacts across three Macs and one iPhone. I also publish my calendar on the web for friends and co-workers to collaborate with. Push functionality works well on the iPhone, and I have my Macs set to sync every hour, making sure everything is up to date on a regular basis. Mail has also been very reliable for me, and I've recently started to add photo albums as well.

No doubt, the launch was really disastrous, and the negative publicity it got at the time was well deserved. however the problems appear to have been fixed and the current MobileMe service is MUCH better.

4.0 out of 5 stars MobileMe. I can not imagine being without it!, October 5, 2008
This review is from: MobileMe [OLD VERSION] [DISCONTINUED PRODUCT/SERVICE]
I love this service! The 99$ subscription may be a little hard to swallow, but I can't see myself NOT using this service.

By far the best feature is the iPhoto sync with the online gallery! All I do is plug in my camera to iPhoto, it pulls the pictures from the camera, I tweak them ever so slighty, and post them on my Online Gallery for the rest of my family and friends to view at their leasure. If I make a change to one of the pictures in iPhoto, it automatically syncs the change. Beautiful!

The iDisk has saved me quite a few times when I have forgotten my flash drive at home and needed to save something to share on a diffrent computer.

The only gripe I have about this service is, I dislike the domain name for the e-mail address. ( yourname@ME.COM )I really liked the old domain name ( yourname@mac.com )But I do like the alias option.

Just like with anything that is new, There are a few bugs when syncing with the mail server, but they are usually fixed right away.

If you own a mac, or even if you do not own a mac ( i started using this service a few months BEFORE owning my mac ) This service is amazing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Situation Normal, all as expected, January 14, 2009

I order MobileMe (formerly .Mac) every year from Amazon because it is less expensive here than if I directly renew on Apple.com. I simply enter the authorization code on MobilMe and my renewal is applied on the correct date, renewing me for another year.

No problems, No hassles, just as I expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars Apple has worked out the bugs....., October 28, 2008
This review is from: MobileMe [OLD VERSION] [DISCONTINUED PRODUCT/SERVICE]
It appears that Apple has solved the problems that plagued MobileMe earlier this year. I have found the service to be trouble free and find that it does everything that I need it to do. I can seamlessly sync between my iphone, MacBook Pro and "the cloud".

5.0 out of 5 stars MobileMe is incredible - Please ignore the Apple bashers, October 19, 2008
This review is from: MobileMe [OLD VERSION] [DISCONTINUED PRODUCT/SERVICE]
This is an incredible product. I own several PCs, Macs, and and iPhone and MobileMe keeps contacts and calendar events flawlessly synced across all of them. It is incredibly easy to use. When I upgraded my PC, I simply installed the MobileMe control panel, checked off a few boxes, and seconds later it imported all my contacts, calendars, and bookmarks. Cant ask for anything more.

4.0 out of 5 stars The new .mac, January 14, 2009

The new .mac is not worst than the old one and maybe even a bit better. At $99 per year regular retail it is kind of expensive, but if you have good reasons to buy it this is a good product. I sync several macs and use MobileMe to backup important files. To me that service is worth its money.
It should be noted that you have to use the activation code from the box within 9 months of purchase, so you should not buy 10 of these and keep them until you need it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value, December 28, 2008
This review is from: MobileMe [OLD VERSION] [DISCONTINUED PRODUCT/SERVICE]
Why pay full price for the Mobile Me renewal when you can buy it on Amazon at such a discount? The product shipped quickly and arrived in time for my renewal. The box even had the original price ($99)! I will be renewing this way for the years to come.

4.0 out of 5 stars works for me, November 17, 2008
This review is from: MobileMe [OLD VERSION] [DISCONTINUED PRODUCT/SERVICE]
I see lots of complaints on these and other boards. I have used this service since it's inception. Sure there are some bugs and annoyances. But it does the basic job.

I have two desktops, one laptop and an ipod touch all synced with MobileMe. (Though I do hate that name.) Any change on any one device automatically gets sent to all other devices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get in the Cloud! It's great, for the 5th year! Getting better too., January 10, 2009

While I like the .mac for my emails rather than .me, I can still use my old.mac name. That tiny item aside, When I go away for a day, a week or two, and use another computer to check in, I can get ALL my emails, use my calendar and contacts, and have all my browser things in effect. (Only thing I need to remember is my email addy and password! )
Just like I'm using my own Mac!
It may have had a slow transition, from .mac to mobileme, and Apple, being who they are, gave me several months for free.

Amazon, being what they are, got this to me with free shipping, four days earlier than promised. And, at a very competitive price. I buy it here, every year.
Did the same with my Applecare for my new iMac.

Why wouldn't you?

It is good stuff. I really like having 20Gb in "the cloud", to use my own way.
And, soon, I read, they'll be adding a link, to any email you / I send, that contains any attachment too big for email, so those you sent to, can simply click, and retrieve, from your own "cloud".

Get in the Cloud People!

It's great up here!

Pete

4.0 out of 5 stars Rough Start, but Much Improved, October 24, 2008

I was one of the suckas who signed up for this service on July 11th when it was released. It was horrible, BUT Apple has done a 180 on this product and is doing leaps and bounds to fix the issues. Their tech support is good and they've helped me work thru some of my issues. This product is something that should never have been released when it was, but they extended the trial period to 90 days to make up for it and I'll probably pay for it once the trial is up. It's a great service for us iPhone users. The Mobile Me email interface is weak, but I don't use it anyway since my other IMAP and POP3 accounts work just fine. I love how it syncs my calendar and contacts with Outlook and my iPhone. Apple still needs to make some improvements on the me.com site, but for now I'd say it's worth the discounted price from Amazon...not the full retail price from Apple.
