3.0 out of 5 stars Dope production, same old tired genre.
Here we have a situation where the dope production can somewhat make up for the lyrical content. The beats are straight up head knockin', but the gangsta sh*t is tired and played out. Twista & The Speedknot Mobstaz are coming out like straight g's, the production is tight, but if every song wasn't some ignorant expression of the struggle of the street game, this...

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just the same old tired genre..., July 9, 2002

This review is from: Mobstability (Audio CD)
... This is definitley not the same tired old gangsta routine. I believe that anyone who has an appreciation for music can agree that the production on this album is very tight and well assembled. And even if you may not like Twista and his speed-rapping sidekicks, the Speedknots, you have to admit (while their rhymes aren't the deepest out there) they all have talent and are very clever in their delivery. With all this said...how can you knock this album?? Just so you know...this is not a hip-hop album. This is a rap album. There is a difference, and a huge one. Intelligent hip-hop heads wouldn't even think twice to buy this album. If you consider yourself a hip-hop fan of any kind, you would have been turned away from this album simply due to the graphics on the cover (not to mention Twista's rep for being a known gangsta rapper). And just so everyone out there knows...the answer is yes. Real gangsters DO make music. Many of them rap or "MC" for all you real hip-hop fans. Many of them play sports...box...etc. If you think otherwise, you obviously haven't picked up a newspaper in your lifetime. Basically, music is not about genres. Music is supposed to be about life and your experiences in it. There will always be gangsters in this world, and some of them will want to make music. With this is mind...you should know that gangster music will never die. It is just like anything else. It has its own niche in society. If you are tired of it, them maybe you should join the force and contribute to our society. We need the help. I mean...even the East Coast is starting to be gangster now (Fabolous, Ja Rule, Jay Z even?!?). Hopefully you live closer to the Atlantic so you can put some of these people in jail where they need to be, and not partaking in the very same "genre" that all East Coasters used to diss as having no skills or substance. In conclusion...just do a little research before you go spending your money on an album that you will just end up wrongfully criticizing. I mean...its not like Twista ever USED to come deep and really make you scratch your head. He is what he has always been. Highly skilled, very clever and very entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twista and the Speed Knot Mobstaz, September 1, 2000

I own this CD and I would have to say that it is one of the best CD's that I own. Twista really puts it down in this CD. He can flow fast and he raps about how he made his way to the top of the Chi-town game. He is definetly one of the best rappers to hit the hip-hop scene since 2Pac. You should definetly consider buying this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clean Album all the way!, April 16, 2000

Twista & the Speedknot Mobstaz has made an really clean alum. Only one or two tracks are not 100% clean. Those tracks are nr. 8 (party hoes), and 13 (dreams)... the soulpart on dreams really suckz, so that and the whole party hoes track brings the album down a bit. But it's still a 5 star album, not a strong 5 though! Some tips on songs: 2 (crook county), 11 (loyalty) are really good ones..................

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, April 11, 2006

Twista has always been one of my favorites and this cd shows just how good this underground legend and his crew really are. They can pull out great soft tracks and hardcore street thumping tracks. Twista is of course a speedy lyrical master in this one, people who don't appreciate this cd feel that way because they dont know what it is to have good rap, because theyre too caught up in what everyone else likes, "50 cent" and "laffy taffy",,,
Front Porch, Mobstabliity, Warm Embrace, Smoke Wit You, and Dreams are all 5/5 tracks

Following Adrenaline Rush, Twista teamed up with the duo, Speedknot Mobstaz, for a Chi-Town massacre. 14 tracks where the Mobstaz laced all The Legendary Traxster's beats. The title track is composed similar to N.W.A.'s "Alwayz Into Something" and is as nice as the original. As the trio calls out competition to "Mob Up" you get to journey with the "Legit Ballers" through Chicago. "Warm Embrace" is a song about loving and feeling guns. "Front Porch" features the vocals of Danny Boy to take the album to another level. Though most of the songs are slow to mid-tempo to compliment Twista's flow sometime the others don't stand up to his caliber. As they show another side on the commercial, r&b feel "Dreams", they equally shared the spotlight. "Crook County (Bone Crusher Mix) featuring Newsense is the fastest song that sets the tone for the rest to come on this lp. This is a must have for the production and lyrics both are impressive.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Time I Gotta Ride Out With My Mobstaz..., January 22, 2004
This review is from: Mobstability (Audio CD)
Twista furiously came back on the scene in late 2003 with arguably the best song of that year with Slow Jams with Kayne West and Jamie Foxx giving him HUGE airplay and increased anticipation for his next album Kamikaze.

Now on my review for Adrenaline Rush I asked you if you were ready for what Twista was about to offer the public and its obvious he is the biggest thing in the industry since 50 Cent. People are tantalized by his swift flows and sharp lyrics. The public doesn't seem ready for Twista just yet. That brings me to this album. To get you ready for what Twista is about to do you need Adrenaline Rush and Mobstability.

Mobstability, released soon after Twista's first official debut album in 1998, delivers a package that is still fresh and hypnotic today. Granted this is a 'group' effort Twista is clearly the man in this group stealing every song. The Mobstaz are good themselves but pitted next to Twista they seem small. If this album were released next week it would sell like hot cakes. Every song is ridah, lean to the side and bob ya head to this right here. As you've already heard, Front Porch is just a masterpiece. That beat is just oh so beautiful and Twista sets it off at the end with his verse. Legit Ballers is another song that is straight up RIDIN with it's pimpalicious chorus and off the chain flows. Warm Embrace, with another excellent beat, is another banger with an unbeatable chorus and melody. Dreams is the 'love' song on the album that you play when you got that lovely lady in the ride wit ya. Loyalty, Mob Up and Motive 4 Murder are some of the groups 'harder' songs and they are all definitely tight to the fullest with off kilter flows and amazing beats. Crook County gets at Bone Thugs N Harmony rather gangsta like and Twista straight up KILLS this song. Ripped.

The only songs I didn't care for were Party Hoez and Rock Yall Spot which were just wack. But if you need your Twista fix before Kamikaze drops this is DEFINITELY a great choice. 4.5 Stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of My Top 5 Favorite CD's: Good from start to finish, January 14, 2004
This review is from: Mobstability (Audio CD)
Surprisingly, the Speedknot Mobstaz do not take away from what Twista and Traxter have to offer on this album. They blend fairly well with Twista, with pretty good speed and a similar sound. This CD is great all around. Every track, with the exception of the skits of course, is good. Most are great. In my opinion, this album is just as good as Twista's first album, Adrenaline Rush. Twista is finally getting the mainstream attention he deserves with his new album "Kamikazee" that is set to be released on January 27th. Just hope that any mainsteam attention Twista gets doesnt lead to a downgrade in his music. I hope to see another Twista and Speedknot Mobstaz collaboration in the future. If its even half as good as this CD, it would be a great buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beats and Lyrical content - Twista is almost there, October 19, 2003
This review is from: Mobstability (Audio CD)
I was introduced to Twista back in 1999, after the release of this CD. One of my friends was supposed to burn it for someone, but I got his copy. Let me tell ya, I'm from the mid-west. I've heard all the "mid-west rap," but most of it, well, sucks. Twista has the talent and the lyrical depth to make something of legitimate mid-west rap.

He recently signed with Jay-Z's Rock-A-Fella record label, just the boost I think he needs to get off the "talented, but untouchable" list to "mainstream, legitimate rapper" place in rap. Whether you like his sound or not, Mayz and Liffy Stokes add to his talent. I think that, although this posse has crashed down already, this was the start of something significant. Songs like "Party Hoes" may not be their strongest work, but the powerful "Loyalty" and "Front Porch" make the CD worthwhile nonetheless. I find MAYBE 2 tracks here I skip -- "Party Hoes" and "Rock Y'all Spot." "Legit Ballers" is pure Twista bliss.

Anyway, no matter if you like Twista for his patented Guiness Book of World Record fast lyrical style, his lyrics, his harmony, or his posse, Mobstability shouldn't fail you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mobstability, September 14, 2002
This review is from: Mobstability (Audio CD)
Chi-town's own Twista is well known for his rapid-fire lyrical tongue work. His first offering, Adrenaline Rush, introduced people to his brand of flavor. For this effort, he's linked up with crew members, Liffy Stokes and Mayz, who help form the Speedknot Mobstaz.

The two new rappers don't share the same fast-paced style as Twista, but they come with inventive flows and straightforward lyrics, nonetheless. The first song off their latest album is a tasty introduction from the trio, borrowing the classic beat from N.W.A.'s "Always N 2 Sumthin'."

Other choice cuts include the bouncy "In Your World" featuring Christopher Williams, "Crook County," and "Legit Ballers." On the production side, they've enlisted the skills of the Legendary Traxster who laced them with bass-heavy beats that hit hard.

Twista doesn't rhyme as much as one would expect, but this gives his partners a chance to shine. Overall, Mobstability is a good effort that is worth a listen.
