At a time when TV was elbowing out radio in the U.S,, the CBC's Andrew Allan was bringing about a Golden Age of radio drama in Canada. Here are two of his productions from 1949. Don't expect Melville and Coleridge; instead accept these for what they are - - popular melodrama of the scene-chewing variety - - and you will have a lot of fun. A pre-BONANZA Lorne Green plays peg-legged Captain Ahab. The crackle of the old transcription discs from which these tapes were made adds to the period flavor, like the crackling soundtrack of an old horror movie.
