From the Manufacturer

Enjoy your journey, one perfect cup at a time with the Moccamaster Coffee Brewer.

Quality Requirements of ECBC:

All our coffee brewers meet the strict guidelines of the ‘European Coffee Brewer Centre’. These requirements are related to coffee brewing temperature, coffee-water saturation time and coffee holding temperature. A quote from ECBC encapsulates their guiding principle well: 'There’s no use buying a premium coffee only to destroy the results with an underperforming coffee brewer'.

Why Moccamaster

It's the only thing we make - coffeemakers

Technivorm manufacturers only authentic Moccamaster coffee brewers and grinders made with the highest quality parts available today. Our philosophy has always been to produce long lasting, reliable, energy efficient, and recyclable products.

All Moccamaster coffeemakers vary in options including separate elements for brewing and holding, volume capacity, brew-basket options, thermal or glass carafe, and housing style. In addition you are free to buy a varied choice of fresh roasted coffee - no pods or proprietary cups.

This should be the last coffee brewer you will ever buy, one that should last your lifetime, when cleaned and descaled properly. Since It's the first thing you look forward to in the morning, why not make it the best it can be.

First, this coffeemaker makes great coffee. It's quick, and once you get used to the quirks it's easy to use. However, as other people have pointed out, for this price it is a major disappointment that you have to buy a separate gold filter basket. We've had the coffeemaker for a year now, and during that time, the flow control lever on the filter basket has broken twice. There is a strip of metal that acts as a spring on a stopper valve at the bottom of the basket which comes loose and then the coffee doesn't come out of the basket. This makes a wonderful mess when the coffee overflows the basket. The first time it happened, I tried unsuccessfully to fix it, but when you try to work the mechanism, the spring and stopper pop out and there isn't much you can do to put it back. We got a replacement filter basket in the end. Now it's happened again, and I won't even bother to do anything this time. So, no more half pots of coffee, no more stopping the flow in the middle of a brew cycle. Since we never really did that, it's not a great loss. But for this amount of money, this kind of problem is inexcusable. Not sure I would buy this product again, can't honestly recommend it.

I have been using Capresso drip machines for several years (MT500 then MT600). Finally made the leap to the Technivorm and can confidently say it was well worth the investment. The machine is well-designed and well-built. It fulfills all of the "coffee geek" requirements perfectly -- brew temperature and speed, good showering of the ground coffee, and excellent temperature retention in the thermal carafe. The coffee tastes great -- the correct brewing temperature produces good extraction and eliminates unwanted bitterness.

I love that this new model has the brew-through lid. It's not a big deal to pour my first cup and then place the solid lid on the carafe. I'll just have to get used to rinsing and setting the brew-through lid on the counter next to the machine.

My only criticism is very slight. It comes with a removable base upon which to set the carafe under the brew basket. The piece is a bit flimsy and will not stay attached to the machine when I move it out from under the counter to fill the water reservoir. My solution -- just don't use the optional base. It really is not necessary as the carafe will sit perfectly in the machine on the counter under the brew basket. I'm guessing the base would be fine for folks who don't need to move the machine back and forth under a counter.

I love it and am glad to have made the purchase. Amazon made the purchase process flawless, of course.

Verified Purchase
Already have the small Technivorm (8 cup) coffeemaker....coffee is awesome and I've been extremely happy with it. When I decided to purchase another Technivorm for my primary residence, I decided to get the new model which has the 'brew-stop" feature (other Technivorm models don't offer that feature). I've had trouble getting the right coffee strength with the new model; evidently when Technivorm added the brew-stop feature, they eliminated the "coffee strength setting" on that model which controls how fast the water flows through the coffee (based on whether you want to make 1-4 cups or larger quantities). Although the instructions in the box indicate the coffee filter holder has a switch for the strength setting on the new model, mine does not. Technivorm must use one instruction sheet for a variety of models, and not all models have the same features, so beware! I like the brew stop feature, but not at the expense of setting the coffee strength. The other issue I have with all the Technivorms is minor, but still irritating. When the thermojug lid is screwed on, you have to set the thermojug somewhere other than on the plastic holder underneath the coffeemaker...it's too tall when the lid is on to fit. On the positive side, I love the ease of cleaning, the good looks and quality, and (in the case of the 8-cup older model), the coffee it makes. However, for the price of these machines, it should be 5 stars in all categories.

I like this coffee maker. The brew quality is great: water temperature, soaking in grounds, etc. But I had a very disappointing interaction with the company.

I bought the coffee maker at Williams Sonoma, and within 7 months there was a leak in a seam of the carafe, between a plastic part (where the handle is) and the metal below it. The seam where the metal screwed in to the plastic had deteriorated so completely that the carafe itself leaked from about halfway up whenever I poured coffee from it.

I assumed that Moccamaster/Technivorm would replace the carafe, given the 5 year warranty. But they insisted on a receipt. I explained that I thought Williams Sonoma kept receipts in their computer system, but discovered that they delete records after 6 months. That didn't matter.

Even though the design of my defective carafe was less than 5 years old and therefore couldn't be more than 5 years old, it didn't matter.

Moccamaster is a good coffee maker but the critics who are talking about the plastic parts might have a point.

I've owned this coffe maker for a bit over 6 weeks now and I am extremely pleased. I had read several reviews before buying that almost dissuaded me from making my purchase. A few of those are listed below, with my findings:

1. No automatic turnoff switch -when I go to pour my first cup, I turn the machine off. It's my routine, and have never had a problem

2. Can't move the machine else the the thin stand slides off the unit -it's true it does this IF you have the thermos on it. I always have moved the thermos before sliding the unit back on the counter

3. The drip coffee is barely is caught by the thermos when it comes out the spout - true, if you remove the bottom piece of plastic to assist in sliding the unit (see above). -perfect centering when you leave the plastic bottom in place

4. Who wants to run hot water in your thermos to help keep the coffee hot first thing in the morning?-personal preference here, I find that I turn on the hot water and run it into the thermos while I'm grinding the coffee and then move it from the tap to get cold water to brew. The whole process takes about a minute and doesn't seem to hinder my good spirt in the morning...again, just me

5. Have to be extremely careful when placing the brew basket in the proper spot before starting, else you will have coffee all over the place.- again it's just my experience but it is easy to see and feel if the basket is in the wrong spot. I've never had a problem.

All in all, I can't find anything to complain about. I highly recommend this product!
