Changes a Chore to A Joy!,

What a useful tool! I had never heard of a "doweling jig" until a couple of weeks ago, while in the midst of trying to drill and match a total of 64 holes for dowels . . . Received my Dowl-It jig two days ago from Amazon and think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Easy to switch between the different included sizes; simple to line up; and accurate centering every time. Highly recommended!

What a great tool,
This review is from: Model 1000 Self-centering Doweling Jig (Misc.)
This was one of my first purchases because some plans I was going to use called for biscuit joints. But, I didn't have enough money to buy a biscuit joiner and all that, so I bought this jig and used my hand drill. I was joining two pieces of Red Oak to create the top of a stool. I put four dowels in them and they lined up perfectly using this jig. I will eventuaully buy a biscuit joiner - they allow more room for error and are slightly stronger, but for now and on some other applications, this dowel jig can't be beat. Especially at this price.

Back to basics,

This is one of those basic tools that belongs in every woodworkers/handymans tool box. I remember using this in jr hi wood shop when I was 12, with good results. A drill, some brad point drill bits, drill stops, dowell centers & a dowelling jig & you're all set to make a wide variety of very strong joints. There are faster, fancier, costlier & far more complicated methods of wood joinery, but if you have more time than money then I personally believe that this is the strongest, most versatile, user freindly & cost effective system going. Happy dowelling!
