The magnets are too weak to hold it in place.

And, bonus, they work great and heat is now flowing up to the upper floors and not just out into the first floor rooms.

I ordered this Model 51 Air Deflector, as well as the Model 52 Air Deflector. I was unable to easily determine the difference between the two online so ordered them to check it out. Details of my discovery follow.

The Model 52 (also sold on Amazon.com):
- Rated for hot/cold
- Designed for Floor Register (air vent)
- Curved Deflector Top
- 3/4 Depth of the Model 51 (smaller than my register)
- A little bit taller than Model 51
- Flimsy Plastic (with hanging chads)
- Difficult to slide to adjust width without breaking
- Mediocre Magnets (strong enough to hold to floor, not to wall)

This Deflect-O Model 51:
- Rated for hot/cold (says so on box if not on website)
- Designed for Wall Register
- Flat Deflector Top angled up from base
- Covers full width of Register
- A little be shorter than Model 52
- Cleaner Plastic with solid feel
- Not particularly easy to slide to adjust, but solid feeling
- Darn strong magnets (would hold onto a ceiling I'm confident)

So in case it isn't clear, I kept the Model 51, and returned the Model 52. The difference in quality was worth the extra 2 dollars (price difference at the time) in my opinion.

The Model 51 air deflector is a good design somewhat poorly implemented. The idea is that the deflector mounts on the register and directs the air up (like from behind a piece of furniture). To account for different widths the deflector can adjust from 10" to 16" by sliding. It works fine - but the problem is mounting it. The 51 comes with both magnets and screw hole slots. The magnets are too weak to hold it in place. The screw hole slots work provided your register has screws with heads the right size (or you'll need a washer) and enough play to back out the width of the plastic. Then you'll need to be careful to not tighten too much. The clear plastic is fragile and cracks easily.

a life saver and absolutely great. heavy duty, big side magnets, nice heavy plastic, no faults. Cannot go wrong if you need an air deflector. I had to find this one on the 'net, since nobody's even heard of these at your local home depot/lowes.

This is NOT for vents with an OPEN-CLOSE lever.

The description and the HALF picture shown are NO HELP.

Otherwise, the product looks fine--about what you'd expect for the price. The magnet connects nicely to HALF of my vent. Just have to figure out to make it connect to the other half.

A nice simple solution for deflecting air from your heat register. This one's nice because I live in a century-old house, and have giant floor registers, but it fits the length just fine. I do wish it was a deeper unit (beyond the 5 inches), but it's still the best one I've found so far.

Gosh, don't know what all the commotion is about. We live in frigid climes with forced air heating system ducts stuck in the perimeter of rooms and on stairs. Our wall register grates date from about 1930's or perhaps earlier (I wasn't around when they were put in) with many layers of paint over whatever the base metal was. From reading prior reviews we were concerned that the wall registers wouldn't stick using the magnetic bits supplied. Guess what? They're fine!! And, bonus, they work great and heat is now flowing up to the upper floors and not just out into the first floor rooms. Sorry to those who have had problems, but I would only suggest that if you're concerned perhaps one could buy or use some small magnet on your register and see if the darn thing sticks. If it does, order with confidence. If it doesn't, well do what we used to do and make some stupid-looking fragile propped-up contraption to direct the air that collapses if you walk by it too quickly. Or buy the darn thing anyway and use some good industrial sticky tape or construction glue and make it stick.

We ordered 2 air deflectors from this company. It took them way longer than expected to ship and when they got there, only one was fully in tact. The other was broken and even missing some pieces that would make it whole. The one that was in tact has been working great. However, trying to get a replacement for the broken deflector has been impossible and infuriating. After many attempts to reach their customer service via phone and e-mail, NO ONE has called us back or contacted us. All phone attempts are either shuttled to leaving a message or just being disconnected. Product is fine, customer service is non-existent. We've complained to the Better Business Bureau. And we still have a broken deflector on our hands.

On an old fashion wall register deflect heat downward , A/C upward. Adjust unit with 2 hands for correct width. You may have to push magnets toward register to get a solid grip.Cleans easily with mild soap and water, dry completely.Affordable and successful.
