From my wife Sarah: I was looking into going for traction for neck pain and slipped discs in my neck. A recent MRI showed 5 discs out in my neck, with two touching the spinal cord. I found a chiropracter offering the newer traction type table who told me I'd need to come 4 times a week for a while. He showed me the traction machine. In the course of doing some web...

3.0 out of 5 stars Different review
I've had neck problems for the last 15 years. It started with loss of C curve, then I had 2 herniated disks five years ago. I've had years of problems with tight shoulder muscles due to work stress and tension. I spent years seeing a chiropractor and massage therapist. I've had physical therapy and have done the suggested neck exercises. I go from one thing to...

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful, June 28, 2010
This review is from: NEW Model Comfortract Home Cervical Traction Unit (Health and Beauty)
In the course of doing some web research I found this Comfortrac unit. It pretty much looked just like what the chiropracter had, it appeared to do the same thing, and my osteopath approved it for my condition, so I bought it.

I found that it really provided me with some relief, however with my condition this was always temporary. Depending on my condition there are times it didn't work at all, but this machine gave me more relief than anything else I had tried except for chiro or osteo adjustments. I could feel it stretching the muscles, and I even would get some cracking in my neck, followed by some relief. I would definitely recommend this unit.

I also own the Posture Pump-Cervical Traction Device Posture Pro Pump Cervical Spine Trainer. This gives you traction in a different way - by creating a curve in your neck to open up the disks. If I had to choose between the two machines, I'd pick the Comfortrac device because it really seemed to have more impact. However I felt for me that they worked even better together since each does something different for me.

I am dealing with TMJ, and both of these devices work fine without irritating my jaw. They can be used in a modified way to avoid placing pressure on the jaw. Both are very easy to use.

I also own the REAL-EaSE Neck Support unit, which does virtually nothing for me.

After struggling with severe neck pain, headaches and TMJ for decades, I recently heard about a technique called Atlas Orthogonal practiced by only about 250 doctors in the country. A friend of mine got completely pain free after 28 years of severe pain from an accident. I found someone in my area who practices Advanced Atlas Orthogonal, and had it done. It has provided me with more relief than anything I've tried in over 25 years, including many chiropracters, osteopathic adjustments, accupuncture, cranial sacral therapy, physical therapy and the list goes on. It stopped the headaches as long as my neck is in place - I need the atlas periodically adjusted again and still have other spine and neck issues. However it reduced the pain throughout my neck, jaw and body SUBSTANTIALLY. I STRONGLY suggest anyone with neck or jaw pain look into this. It's a blooming miracle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cervical traction device that works, March 5, 2011

This review is from: NEW Model Comfortract Home Cervical Traction Unit (Health and Beauty)
I was recently diagnosed with spinal stenosis and osteophyte impingement in the nerve channels of the cervical spine area. My physical therapist, chiropractor and phsyiatrist all recommended cervical traction to begin relieving the pressure on the facets and disks, and allow for rehydration of the disks that have probaby been under pressure from bad computer posture for 20 years of CAD and other computer related work.

I've been using the device 2x/day for about 12 minutes a session, for about a month now, and attest that it works. In that period of time, along with massage and gentle physical therapy, stretching, etc, I can tell the difference. I have less neck pain, less clicking in movement, and believe the strength loss I was experiencing in my arm due to nerve impingement has hit bottom and is slowly coming back...but I expect this to be a long term commitment.

The device is well-built, and travels well. Along with the right advisement and professional therapy, it is a key ingredient to long term recovery from neck issues I mentioned above. There are no magic bullits individually, but as part of a longer term program of reprogramming your posture...I recommend it.

I discovered this device when receiving physical therapy. It was the best part of the treatment as I had neck and shoulder pain due to stress. It is really easily to use and operate by yourself and very lightweight.

5.0 out of 5 stars It Really Helps, October 1, 2011

Nursing has taken a toll on my cervical spine. Severe facet stenosis C4-C7. Recent severely pinched nerve sent me to pain mgt and PT (not much help). Ordered the Comfortract traction machine and within a week of 3x/day 20 min at the most acute incline I am seeing a significant decrease in arm and sub-scapular pain and increase in tricep muscle strength. Tried the over the door traction which gave me severe muscle spasms and jaw pain. I highly recommend this type of therapy, with this or any comparable traction device, prior to surgery. Spinal fusion is permanent and will render you essentially handicapped not to mention the adjacent segment (superior and inferior to the fusion disc segment) breakdown. I am keenly aware of the pain this structural problem causes so I hope this helps those like myself.

For over 6 months, I had suffered severe pain and spasms in the left upper shoulder area and 'electric' pain and numbness all the way down my left arm into my hand. I was treated with a pain reliever (Naproxen), a muscle relaxant, and a short-term intensive dose of steroids. After taking these drugs, the spasms and pain slowly dissipated. What remained was numbness in my lower left 3 fingers, and some pain in my arm and back if I overexerted myself. I was then given 8 sessions of 'soft' traction to help reduce the symptoms, which are being caused by a nerve impingement in my neck.

The therapist used only her hands to gently lift and pull my head, rather than use a mechanical device. Despite trying to let go, I was never able to completely relax my muscles so that she could effectively do the traction. We discussed some of the options to doing my own traction therapy at home. The sling didn't quite work, and the device that pulls up the chin and hangs over the door wasn't even an option.

Then, I searched the web and found this little gem. It accomplishes what the therapist intended to do in a way that allows me to totally relax my neck muscles (and provide more effective traction). I purchased the unit and took it to my next session with the therapist. She was very impressed and agreed this unit worked perfectly for my particular body type and condition. I now use it 3-4 times a week for 15-20 minutes, following the same instructions available on the You Tube video.

I paid over $300 for the unit, but received a 20% discount when I notified the seller the unit had hair and a few stains on it, as it was probably a demo or a return. It is easily worth that price. My numbness is gradually getting less and less noticeable (but still there). The spasms are completely gone. I cannot attribute all of the progress to this unit, but I can say it has certainly helped.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Quality Stretching Machine, Works as Advertised, September 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: NEW Model Comfortract Home Cervical Traction Unit (Health and Beauty)
Just got this a couple days ago. It came fast and was in perfect condition. But there was no carrying case included even though it's supposed to be. I wrote to the seller and am awaiting a response. The little machine works well. It has a good range of pressure and angle adjustments. It's comfortable to lie in and feels good as it pulls the neck. It's too early for any results but I did feel some pain relief after the first use. I have been suffering from pain 24/7 for over 20 years in my neck and shoulders due to tight muscles which constrict the nerves and discs. I get headaches, dizziness and have Chronic Fatigue due to all the pain and nerve constriction. I hope this machine will help me in the long run. I'm a 42 year old male massage therapist and know the benefits of stretching. I have been using the 20-25 pressure for now. The gauge works well and all the materials seem to be of high quality. The release button works great. The machine came with a gray soft pad that I am not sure what to do with. It may be for the back as you lay on the floor..I hope I can get the carrying case shipped to me. I like this machine because it is very easy to use and requires no set-up. I've been stretched at chiropractor's office on a large machine that applies traction to both the feet and neck. This is basically a small version and of course only works the neck. I'll update when I know more about the carrying case and also on my pain reduction progress.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm happy enough., November 7, 2011

This contraption is very handy and easy to use. It's so light and it came with its own bag making it very portable. It really relieves my pain and the numbness that came with my slipped disc. However, I find it works best when used at night or when I can lie down for a long time after using it. From a pain scale of 8-9/10, daily use at bedtime has reduced my pain to 1-2/10. I have even stopped using any pain relievers! The only drawback is it causes a little pain at the base of the back of my head where the contraption exerts pressure to pull my head up... All in all, I'm happy with it.
