Great for the Modeler,
By
This review is from: The Model Railroader's Guide to Junctions (Paperback)
This book actually does two things well. The first is that it explains how junctions work in the real world of railroading. That by itself makes the book worthwhile. Modelers need that kind of information. It goes the extra step for modelers, though. It actually shows how to build working model equipment to operate a model junction. Particularly impressive is the explanation of interlocking and the building of interlocking mechanisms.
I wish the illustration were a bit bigger. I wish that some of the explanations were more in depth but this far above the standard. It's a great resource.

A welcome addition to any dedicated model railroader's reference collections, The Model Railroader's Guide To Junctions by Jeff Wilson is a "user friendly" and creative introduction to often difficult task of building and mastering model railroad junctions. Delving deeply into the study of various aspects of model railroad crossroads and junction intersections, The Model Railroader's Guide To Junctions informatively presents the model railroader with a remarkable mapping of diverging routes, diagrams for track layouts and operations, wisdom for improving junctions for realistic, attractive, and functional styles. The Model Railroader's Guide To Junctions is very strongly recommended for all model railroading hobbyists searching for a knowledgeable and step-by-step instructional guide to building effective crossroads and junctions for the model railroad layouts.

Jeff once again has put out a book to complement any Model Railroad reference library. The writing is thorough and engaging. Should be one on your shelves!
The ONLY reason I was disappointed with this book was that (to me) there wasn't enough MR pixes/examples. I'm still a novice at building railroads, so it would be great to have as many "ponies" as possible, to give my imagination plenty to mull over. |
