3.0 out of 5 stars Subset of the classic Handbook, May 21, 2001

This review is from: The Model Rocketry Manual
I bought a copy of this book nearly 30 years ago. It's essentially a cut-down version of Stine's classic Handbook of Model Rocketry. It covers launch systems, motor classification, construction and finishing, and other basics.

The Manual appears to have been written for the MPC (Model Products Corporation) model rocketry division; most of the rockets shown are MPC kits. Stine also plugs the MPC line in subtle ways.

This is a nice, basic introduction to the hobby, easier to digest than the Handbook. I doubt it will every be reprinted, however, and shouldn't be looked on as anything more than a collectable curiosity.

ADDENDUM:

Since writing the above, I've discovered a later edition of this book. It lacks the subtle plugs for MPC products, and has more contemporary (early 1980s, I suspect) photographs.

5.0 out of 5 stars A watershed book in my personal history, December 25, 2002

Dean Thomas (Downey, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Model Rocketry Manual
I obtained this book in New Zealand way back in 1974 (way before Model Rocketry became commercially available there)! This book had a profound impression upon me and started a series of events that led me to be able to import Model Rockets from the USA, and when I eventually emigrated to the USA, to be constantly involved in the hobby/sport, including teaching it to Civil Air Patrol Cadets and US Naval Sea Cadets. The information, despite it's age, is easy to comprehend, and gives a good grounding into Model Rocketry. It's well worth the read!
