Usborne Cut and Assemble Trojan Horse,
By
This review is from: Make This Model Trojan Horse (Usborne Cut-Out Models) (Paperback)
Cutting out pieces and scoring fold lines are an easily learned skill with patience. Model then assembles with Elmer's school glue with crisp well fitting lines. Usborne models always fit well together if cut well and lines scored neatly. They make excellent dioramas for Library, Classroom, or satisfy the child or adult who is interested in creating the building or scene that they have(or are) reading about.I have donated some of the models that I have assembled to high school art departments, Public Libraries, and Regional Museums.

My son and I put this together with a glue gun, and although it took about 6 hours, it was a lot of fun and educational!

I ordered this product for my 12 year old son to put together for his 6th grade curriculum fair project. It took the two of us more than 4 hours to cut out and assemble it. The directions were very accurate and the whole thing turned out great but it was very tedious cutting and gluing for a boy.

My son is interested in Ancient Greece, and after he devoured the Rosemary Sutcliff books (illustrated by Alan Lee), he really wanted to make something on his own. I stumbled across this book/kit on Amazon, and it was a wonderful project. Here are the Alan Lee-illustrated books that inspired him: Black Ships Before Troy The Wanderings of Odysseus: The Story of The Odyssey The trick to the Usborne book is in careful cutting, and in learning how to SCORE the paper -- pressing on the fold lines with the blade of the open scissors. The hot glue part he could do almost completely alone, with the exception of getting the platform (piece 24) installed inside the body (piece 23). To roll the axles into narrow tubes, try using a long bamboo skewer and roll and re-roll them unitl they are small. I recommend you use a METAL ruler for the scoring, as my son damaged a wooden ruler and a plastic ruler when the scoring ran amok. By patiently following directins, your child can get VERY GOOD results. I wouldn't say our Trojan Horse is perfect -- some glue blobs are still visible, and some of the curved parts are not perfectly aligned, but my son is very pleased with it -- and best of all, he did it HIMSELF. He put on a little play for the rest of the family; it was great. I am adding my photos in "Customer Images" -- check them out!

It's very exciting to bring out the horse. You can travel alongthe figures to Greece and indeed you can recall The Iliad and all theGreek mithology. The children learn a lot of World History while constructing. END
