4.0 out of 5 stars Modelling the De Havilland Mosquito
An excellent book. The standard of modelling is first-rate, and higher than some other titles I have seen in this series. Photography is very good. A good selection of subjects, detailing and finishing techniques, and minor conversions is covered, based on the superb Tamiya 1/48 and 1/72 kits. Highly recommended. I will definitely buy other aircraft modelling titles...

2.0 out of 5 stars frustrating book
I have purchased three books in this series and they all suffer from the same flaw. Not enough specfic detail. Perhaps these books are not intended to be 'how to' books, in which case they make great browsing for a non-builder. However a builder looking for information will find the books hint more than they explain. Two examples are references to custom paint mixes with...

I have purchased three books in this series and they all suffer from the same flaw. Not enough specfic detail. Perhaps these books are not intended to be 'how to' books, in which case they make great browsing for a non-builder. However a builder looking for information will find the books hint more than they explain. Two examples are references to custom paint mixes with no mention of the formula or paints used, and reference to modifying the Tamiya kit's tail with no detail about where or what to cut or reshape. Perhaps these details are obvious to some but then would these people be the target audience for these books? In the end I came away greatly impressed with the modelling skills of the author but with very little specific knowledge to help improve my own skills.

Modelling the De Havilland Mosquito (Osprey Modelling)

Roy Sutherland has made a career of excellent aviation research and products for the scale modeler, and this book continues the trend. While the book emphasizes Airfix and Tamiya kits of the Mosquito, the techniques and information are applicable to improving any Mosquito kit or scratchbuilding project. Even if you aren't a Mosquito enthusiast, the techniques and processes featured in Sutherland's work alone are well worth the book's price. I've had experience with Roy's resin detail products, and this book mirrors the scholarship and talent he has demonstrated in his other product lines. Recommended without reservation.
