Book Description

February 28, 2006 Osprey Modelling (Book 12)
Developed from a 1938 design by Messerschmitt the Me 262 Schwalbe (Swallow) was the world's first operational turbojet aircraft. First seeing combat in July 1944, it proved to be particularly effective against the large Allied bomber formations that were operating over Germany late in the war and more than 1,400 were produced, though less than 300 saw combat. This book showcases six different builds of the Me 262 across the scales from 1/72 to 1/32, across a range of skill levels. It also includes a comprehensive list of all the available kits and aftermarket products.

"For an intermedite or more experienced modeler, this book will be the perfect resource to make a contest worthy model of the Messerschmitt Me 262!" -Jean-Luc Formery, AeroScale

"Overall, this new manual from Osprey Publishing does not disappoint in any manner. It's skillfully written, with accurate build reproductions, unique and interesting variants, superb step-by-step color photography and detailed instructional text. Definitely a two thumbs up, and highly recommended from this modeler's point of view." -Mark Smith, AeroScale

4.0 out of 5 stars Vanilla "Osprey Modelling, August 2, 2007
This review is from: Modelling the Messerschmitt Me 262 (Osprey Modelling) (Paperback)
Just your regular Osprey Modelling volume - something for everyone, every scale, every skill, great descriptions, brilliant techniques and great pictures. I'll only glve it 4 stars though, because the book should be (or have been) expanded, on the lines of the "Modelling the P-47"'s supplementary PDF, with an article on the not-so-brand-new 1/32 Trumpeter kit - it's sorely missed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring book but needs revision and to cater towards more novice modellers, December 10, 2009

This review is from: Modelling the Messerschmitt Me 262 (Osprey Modelling) (Paperback)
Osprey's 'Modelling the Messerschmitt Me 262' is a great source of inspiration if you are planning on building a Me 262 kit - especially in 1:48 scale as there are many examples of the Tamiya and Dragon kits. There are many expertly constructed models, however nothing really aimed towards the basic/novice builder. The prevalence of 1:48 scale Me-262s built using the 'Cutting Edge' after market products, noticeably the adding of the leading edge slats to the Tamiya kit, is annoying should the modeller want to pursue a similar path. It is my understanding that 'Cutting Edge Modelworks' no longer exists as a company. Subsequent after market companies such as Verlinden now produce an enhancement kits and these should perhaps be explored in more detail. Still worthwhile for the various painting techniques and attention to small details.
