5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Osprey Aircraft build reviews
Two things caught my attention right away - the author empahsized that this is a hobby and is to be done for fun and to satisfy the modeler, not the contest judge or the 'reviewer'. Excellent. Also, the caliber of this man's builds and his techniques are simply outstanding. This book is jammed with good advice, techniques and practices. The various sections describing the...

3.0 out of 5 stars the numerous extras
I thought the book overall was not as helpful as it was played up to be. it went through the nemerous scale models 1/144,1/72,1/48,1/32 but it covered none in any heavy photos. overall a good article for fine scale modeler but not a book!
i got better reference photo's off of the internet than what was in the book.I purchased the book in the hopes of getting some...

The various sections describing the actual weathering and abuse the Japanes planes were subject to (and, more importantly in many instances, not subject to) is worth the price of the book. It seems to be a little known fact among modeling circles that the Japanese planes were primed with a dark red primer which would, naturally, show up due to wear, chipping, etc. This is seldom portrayed on most heavily weathered Japanese scale models. Reading books like this will help you do your homework in a most enjoyable way, and build better models besides. I recommend this book to you even if you are not interested specifically in Japanese aircraft because the philosophies and techniques are applicable to all kinds of scale modeling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!, January 27, 2010
This review is from: Modelling the Mitsubishi A6M Zero (Osprey Modelling) (Paperback)
This is a must have for any model builder!
While the book focuses upon the A-6M, the author and the contributors offer a wealth of knowledge regarding model aircraft building, painting and weathering. Excellent all around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Right on the money, August 23, 2011

This is the best book for reference if you need to look up from painting to add little details. I have purchased/looked at many books/photos for references and mostly were disappointed with the lack of good photos or information. With this book I was able to get the paint references correct, but some details too, that I was not aware of.

If you are wondering if the price is worth it. I would say "Yes!"

4.0 out of 5 stars I read the preview and found something dissapointing, August 14, 2011
This review is from: Modelling the Mitsubishi A6M Zero (Osprey Modelling) (Paperback)
I read the preview on this and everything was awesome. The cocpit was really intricate, I loved it! But i look at the weathering on the fusalage and I was in shock. He put a layer of rust on his ALUMINUM covered airplane!!!! Oh no! Aluminum never rusts. Its sad he did not consider this when researching the plane. Maybe he should have used an undercoat of purple which is what the IJN used as a paint primer on their aircraft. Sorry guys idk about the rest of the book but make sure you do your own research if you buy this book!
