Another excelent book by Alex Clark,

This review is from: Modelling the Tiger Tank in 1/72 Scale (Osprey Modelling) (Paperback)
Fans of 1/72 scale armor rejoice! This book contains walkthroughs of builds of a Tiger II, Elefant, Tiger, Sturmtiger, and Jagdtiger. This is certainly not a beginner's book - even the easiest of the builds ends up being mostly resin after-market parts, and the later models have a large percentage of scratch-built components. The Jagdtiger includes a full interior that defies description. The pictures are better than the ones from the previous Panzer IV book - more large pictures, and the small ones are taken closer to the details, so you can still make them out. However, I would like to see more steps devoted to painting techniques, like masking and how he deals with tracks and other attached parts.
Detail pictures of an actual preserved Elefant are included in that chapter. A gallery of builds by other modelers includes a Tiger I, Tiger II and a Ferdinand interior. There is also a section on reference materials and reviews of available models. Anyone with an interest in 1/72 scale armor or of modeling excellence in general should get this book. Any book by Alex Clark is going to find an instant slot in my bookshelf from now on.

Building tiny Tigers? This book is for you.,

This review is from: Modelling the Tiger Tank in 1/72 Scale (Osprey Modelling) (Paperback)
This book is the latest title in the popular Osprey Modelling series (it's number 28). Aimed primarily at intermediate and advanced armor modelers, the book explores a number of Tiger tank variants in 1/72 scale (Braille scale, to some). Like all the books in the Osprey series, the quality of the photographs and writing is superb. Alex Clark does a wonderful job covering the intricacies of building many different Tiger versions (this is his second Osprey title) and his writing style is both instructional and easy to read. A careful reader can look forward to spending two or three hours enjoying this book and walk away with ideas for improving future Tiger projects.

This book, together with the Panzer IV ones, brings us with a chance to see Mr. Clarks technique, refining from simple assembling to almost scratchbuild a tiger. Many variants are included and ways to assemble, paint, convert, etc are also included.

ALL modelers will get something from this book, if they choose to buy it. From beginners to experts even reading one section/chapter will leave you inspired and wanting more [don't you just hate it when they do that :-) ].
View Amazon's "LOOK INSIDE" feature for more specific information, especially the Table of Contents. Be aware that Websites and specific accessories/materials mentioned in the book may have changed or no longer be available; "....the price of progress." Amazon will appreciate my noting that it was delivered quickly and in good order. Which is true for the vast majority of purchases (Okay Amazon, do I get my $50.00 now? ...for those who don't get it - I'm joking about the $50.00). This is the type of book that you read and want to re-read; it hardly ever gets old. |
