A book about modeling by a headshot photographer,
By A Customer
This review is from: Modelmania: The Working Model's Manual (Paperback)
The author's title (photographer) leads the reader to believe that he is an expert in the field. In fact, there's a lot of misinformation in this book. Buyer beware.

A real opinion from a real person!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Modelmania: The Working Model's Manual (Paperback)
I stumbled onto this book as a total idiot to the world of modeling. I followed its steps as far as to contact Karl. After talking to him for only a few minutes I knew he was giving me the "Real Story" on the business. His advice as a photographer and as a model has helped me get a confident start on a promising career. This book cuts through the smoke and mirrors and gives the reader the realistic approach to the business. This small investment will save you literally thousands of dollars in starting a modeling career as well as educating you on all the scams, and illegitimate agencies that paint a newcomer a false picture. A must read for all wannabe models and parents who are interested in a Modeling career for their child.

Professional Model from Europe,

The writer is a complete idiot. He is nothing more than a headshot photographer (and not a particularly talented one at that), and writes at a first-grade level. This book is worthless trash.

Karl Preston really does "cut to the important stuff" in a hurry. I wish I had this book when I started exploring this option with my life (but then again it wasn't published when I started looking!). Now I know what to do when I move back to California!

GREAT BOOK !!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Modelmania: The Working Model's Manual (Paperback)
This book is fantastic! I looked for so long to find a source like this. MODELMANIA sums up how to successfully pursue the modeling industry. It's easy and enjoyable to read. Its real life stories (not over-glamourized) throughout helped me gain valuable insight and knowledge about the modeling world that I wouldn't otherwise have. Karl Preston gives you his 14 years of experience for you to draw from to chart your own highly successful path. MODELMANIA very simply and plainly takes you through the step by step process of going from point 'A' to point 'B' and so on, towards your own personal success. The whole book is geared towards getting you up and running as quickly and cheaply as possible...from getting your first job, to finding continuous success...and ultimately making big money time and time again. It's by far, the only book on the subject that does a perfect and complete job of covering every aspect of the modeling industry. I huge listings in the last third of the book are invaluable by themselves. I was able to hook up with agents, photographers, clients, photo labs...Anything you need...any question you have...It's there!!!

MORE SELF-SERVICE BY THE INDUSTRY FOR THE INDUSTRY,
By A Customer
This review is from: Modelmania: The Working Model's Manual (Paperback)
How many more modeling books is Eileen Ford going to 'endorse?' When will a writer give young people starting out in the industry some straight talk about where they best fit into the industry and how to make the most of their talents and reach their full potential? This book conveniently sidesteps the BIG CHANGES in the Industry over the last five-seven years. GET REAL PLEASE.

A Helping Hand!,

This review is from: Modelmania: The Working Model's Manual (Paperback)
Karl Preston's advice is so helpful and honest! In an industry that basically makes it's money by ripping off young, naive men and women trying to achieve their dreams, this book is like a diamond in the rough. It gives you step by step instructions, with practical advice, and REAL expectations for yourself and the industry. Thanks, Karl!

If you get only one book on this topic,...,
By Paul Huang (Boston, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Modelmania: The Working Model's Manual (Paperback)
Get this book! It is a wonderful introduction to the field of modelling and commercial acting. The information is accurate and insightful. The book turns wannabes into informed, prepared competitors! As an adult male, I find the book particularly helpful, as it is not pitched toward pre-teenage girls like many other excellent books. The step by step approaches to getting photos, contacting agents, going to go-sees and auditions, were great. I am now with a great agency, have booked both print and TV commercial work (as a SAG principal, no less...), and am pursuing acting as well. This book has prepared me well and I highly recommend it.
