Now THIS is a Major-Label Debut,
By Ockham's Razor (Ohio, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Moderation (Audio CD)
This has got to be one of the best debuts (not to say albums) I have heard in quite a while. A truly mature offering from a relatively new band, "In Moderation" is well-conceived and features a band that knows the meaning of diversity and interpretation in music. Dynamics are what make this album superb...from the aggressive, blistering attack of the grooves of "Satisfied", "Better" and "Wider" to the softer, more sensitive but no less intense "Question Everything" and "Uninspired". They sound just as convincing in either modality, and even throw in some more standard alternative tracks that sound great to boot. You can hear some strains of Creed, Pearl Jam and even some Collective Soul...they remind me somewhat of doubleDrive (another excellent band you should check out!). But make no mistake, 8STOPS7 has a sound all of their own. Evan Sula-Goff has a voice destined to become a luminary in the heavy music field. Emotional, mature and multi-dimensional, the mans sounds just as comfortable pouring it all out in an acoustic ballad as he is belting out rage and angst in a full-out aggro rocker. And he doesn't rely on just emotion to do it...it's sung skillfully and with character. Their guitars are another standout...dense and complex, they combine the emotional riffage of grunge and modern rock with the precision and groove of new (and even old) metal. Round it out with a rhythm section that's spot on the groove and provides a rock-solid base, and you've got an album with no filler. Again, their diversity and comfort in different musical settings...and their ability to take influences and meld them into a sound that's their own makes 8STOPS7's "In Moderation" a standout. If you're looking for some new blood on the scene, these are the guys.

Not Just a band,
By Jesse Stoner (Harrisburg PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Moderation (Audio CD)
Musically the band might not be Zepplin or other well known "good" bands but they do have a unique sound. The greatest part about this cd is their is such a diversity of sound and the lyrics aren't just random words thrown together because they sound good. Whether they get their inspiration from another band is not the point. They make music that they enjoy playing and it shows. See these guys live and you'll be hooked for life. I'd give my right arm to have these guys come back to PA (their from CA) again. Maybe Evan (vocals) Doesn't have a perfect voice but you can almost feel his emotion, he believes what he's saying (not just singing) and that's what counts.Do you know the greatest part about being in a band is? You can do whatever you want. The only way you can't do this is if you are being paid not to. You can take a sound from another band and use/modify it. I'm sure many of you have heard a song that you thought either lacked a certain element or was in need of something else. I'm tired of hearing people say that 8 Stops 7 *is* Pearl Jam. Whether they were inspired means nothing. Where do you think musicians get into music? They listen to other music and learn what they like. You can learn to appriciate any music if you try hard enough because as long as someone put time into a song, it's worth at least a little recignition. Perhaps I like this band simply because i met them. They came to a concert put together by our local radio station (105.7 the X)at Ski Roundtop and i was going to see Lit but 3 other bands; Stir, Three Doors Down (before they even had a cd out), and 8 stops 7. This was possibly the coldest day of the year and the wind was whipping down off the snow and right on to the stage and the crowd. A few people were setting up a drumset and tuning guitars on stage. The next thing i know, these people (I didn't realise this was the actual band) all grab their instruments and i hear the start of my "would be savior". All i simply heard was one guitar so i figured the guy was tuning but then the band just broke into the song. They sounded amazing even though the vocals weren't quite loud enough. I knew a minute into their playing that this was a good band. After the show they annouced they had cds for sale and i ran to the small tent where they were selling them and dropped the best $10 i ever spent. After the show was over the band stood outside for autographs (for hours). I saw Evan (vocals) and went up to him for an autograph. I told him i liked the band and he smiled and made some small talk. Next, he turned around and found all the other band members to have them sign the cd for me. I have never met anyone so down to earth and just down right nice. Just go to www.8stops7.com and read a little about these guys. The Lead singer has been into music since he was young child and even used the lyrics to the song he wrote about his friend who had died (he wrote the song before he was even in high school if my memory serves me correctly.) Not only is Evan a great guy he also isn't greedy. The band contributes to "children of the night" which is an organization to help runaway children of abusive parents. Not only does the band contribute money they also contribute time and energy. They play free concerts for the kids and Evan even plays softball with them. (i'm looking forward to their self released material... They were dropped from their label due to personal disputes between managers from what i heard.)

Everyone who considers themselves into rock should listen to this amazing album. This album combines rock and alternative to a pristine level. Listen to it and it will eat away at your soul-- but in a good way. These guys will be famous one day and you'll feel privileged to have owned their cd way back when.

I was fortunet enough to see 8STOPS7 perform when they were in Springfield, MO. and was just flat out "blown away"! Their music was unbelievably mature for such a young (new) group getting started in an industry where newbies begin and end in a single day. Vocalisy-Lyricsist Evan Saul-Goff is an old soul in a such a young man, who writes about experiences in life that only a mature person would have endured.Seth Watson, is a stellar guitarist with style that makes one feel the passion with note he so finely plays. Bass player Alex Viveros is quite an exceptional musician and complements all artistic abilities in the band. Drummer, Adam Powell has the power and agelity pull the band together. Rythum Guitarist and Backup vocals Arron (last name unknown) helps in bringing the studio sound together in a live setting. If you are lucky enough to be anywhere near where theyare touring - GO SEE THEM! I love every song on their CD "In Moderation" but if Ihad to pick a favorite it would be either "Satisfied"or "Better". Be sure not to miss the final track that is hidden after the final song. It starts at exactly 8:07 minutes. An interesting addition that will absoutely give you goose bumps.......haunting and powerful! It wouldn't suprise me if a few of the cuts off of "In Moderation", made it to the soundtracks of movies. I can't wait to see them again.

A Modern Rock Masterpiece,
By Nathan Miller (Castleton, VT USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Moderation (Audio CD)
8stops7 is by far the best modern rock cd I have bought in the last year or few years. And I have bought a lot. The songs are cohesive and extremely consistent. From the second I heard "satisfied" I knew I would feel that same way about the album. "Not Alive" is also an excellent track, showcasing the vocal stylings of Mr. Evan Sula-Golf. "Question Everything" is a radio friendly smash, sentimental, beautiful, and rocking out all at the same time. "Uninspired" is a slow-burning rocker, using all the right timing and atmosphere. Other songs are just straight ahead rock. "Forget" is the ballad and it sounds great. The lead singer, Goff, has an amazing voice. One can hear the emotion in the ropes of his vocals. Mix a bit of Vedder with some Stapp and the guy from shades apart and you have a sense of his voice. It is an amazing voice. This band rocks, and this album deserves much more recognition than it has recieved.

Latter part of cd mellows out,
By A Customer
This review is from: In Moderation (Audio CD)
The first half of this cd has some catchy, groove laden songs. Singer is similar to Eddie Vedder, but guitars are a lot heavier than Pearl Jam. I guess they forgot to turn on the distortion pedals for the second half of the cd. I was less than thrilled with that. Reading everyone else's review, they make it sound like this is the best debut cd that was ever recorded. You are certainly entitled to an opinion, but that is stretching it a little bit too much. It looks like my review is the first in a negative vein.

It there song "Satisfied" put to a amatuer music video. After hearing this song i just had to get the album. After searching for months to find a copy in stores i had to buy more than one just in case. I have gotten 3 copies of this amazing CD one for my car, my house, and keep in mint. The vocals peirce the soul, and the guitar riff vary to be able to satisfy hard rockers to mellow ones. I highly reccomend this CD to everyone. I gaurentee that everyone will find at least 1 thing they love about the CD, myself i love ever shred of auido put on it espeacially the unique vocal talent. I know i am not a real critic but i thank you for your time reading my opinion.

They shouldn't have released Satisfied first.,
By
This review is from: In Moderation (Audio CD)
I just bought this CD yesterday after having heard Satisfied on the radio and absolutely loving it. After my first listen I was extremely disappointed. They were good but nothing else came close to Satisfied. This band did what I absolutely hate for a band to do most. Their first big single they released sounds nothing like most of the rest of their stuff. I like most of their other songs on the CD but when I bought this CD I was looking for something heavy, not a Vertical Horizion clone. Now while I really like Vertical Horizion, it really wasn't what I was hoping for when I purchased this CD. Satisfied just sounded so good and I don't quite understand why 8STOPS7 thinks they need to do the softer stuff when their heaviest music sounds the best. From what I've said, it sounds like I really hated this CD, but that's really not the case. Now that I've listened to the CD a couple more times I've realized that it's really good. I would have probably given it 5 stars if they hadn't released Satisfied first. Also, be sure not to miss the hidden track after track 11. It's the only hidden track I've ever heard that I liked. In conclusion, I would recommend this CD to Vertical Horizion fans, but to those who are only looking for more music that sounds like Satisfied, you're probably going to be disappointed.
