The Modern Architecture Pop-Up Book,
This review is from: The Modern Architecture Pop-Up Book (Hardcover)
I collect pop-up books. I am also an art dealer so I have interest in this book from two angles. This book is disappointing because the pop-up images are not as well executed as they are in other pop-up books. I had great difficulty in closing the book after I opened it to one partiuclar page as the pop-up on that page did not close easily. The book covers many architectural marvels and that is satisfying but I wish it had been engineered better.

Popups that don't pop down,

I would not recommend this book unless you like to spend lots of frustrating time trying to make the pop-ups pop down! They look great when you first open them but many of them would not fold back down easily. I bought it for my husband and we were very careful trying to use it. Definitely not recommended for kids, they would destroy it.

great book just that there are pictures on the back cover that aren't in the book and some of the popups are hard to open

Great book with super pop-ups! No worries with folding the pop-ups back in...it's easier than said in the other review.

This book has the feel (paper quality) and look (level of content) of a DK publication. it is well made and crammed with information, this is where it fall flat somewhat. if I were to purchase a DK book then I would expect something filled to the brim with interesting facts about the buildings displayed within but for a pop up book of this quality I would much prefer the adage formula of less is more. the pages are so filled with content that you find your eye being pulled all over the page and hard to focus on some of the amazing pop up forms on the page. I felt overwhelmed by the sheer number of facts and figures each page contained and kept wondering why the authors and publisher felt that someone buying this book would want all this clutter on the page. I assume this is due to them wishing the book to appeal to both young and old therefore younger readers may require more information of other buildings related to the main pop up. However I couldn't help thinking even to a child of 8-12 range the level of information would also seem confusing and jumbled on the page. final comments one of the pop ups broke very easily as some of the pages are not designed to open flat an dthe paper quality (as per my first comment) is like a DK book (poorer quality). the arrival of my package also meant the books were not very well packed and the book has damaged corners, which is not the fault of the publisher but Amazons!
finally I have two books by this publisher and I have one question to you what is the white box for on the back of the book? it serves no purpose but to fill out the books thickness and to take up valuable shelf space?!?

A pop-up flop!,
By
This review is from: The Modern Architecture Pop-Up Book (Hardcover)
Some reviewers complain that the pop-ups don't fully or easily close. They actually don't really pop up. They're floppy, which is really bad for Mies. Many tabs are broken. One piece fell out of the book that doesn't even seem to have been glued in, and I can't match it to a specific building because none of them work very well.
Poorly designed. Poorly produced. I haven't even bothered to read it. If you really want a pop-up book with educational content, get one of the Encyclopedia Prehistorica series, any one of which is full of amazing, sturdy constructions.

I purchased this book for myself after seeing it in The Metropolitian Museum of Art Cataloge. The price for the book in the Cat. was $49.00, I paid $16.00. What a deal, it's a fabluose book.
