This review is from: Modern Art: 2011 Wall Calendar (Calendar)
Compared to buying separate prints, rounding out a few gaps in your home decoration with whole pages from an art calendar, or part of a work that fits your frame is much cheaper. Especially finding ordinary black frames for under five dollars at WalMart. I found a 2011 pop art calendar last time I was in Chicago at the store across from their Art Institute several months back and got a great variety by comparison. Me and my roommates picked out most of those prints to display, but only a few from this calendar. I guess Modern Art to the publisher includes the late 19th century as this calendar has Van Gogh's "Starry Night," as if we haven't see that particular Van Gogh practically everywhere, right down to the bottom of Cindi Lauper's shoes.
Regardless I still found just enough choices that suited me to fill in the area I was working with. I'd list all the works but this was a while ago and cutting out prints destroyed the calendar. As I recall there was also Hopper's "Woman in a theater" and a portrait of Klimt's wife (or some other stately-looking woman, NOT "The Kiss" THANKFULLY), and also I think a landscape of a forest by Klimt too. That and one other made it worth buying. Good, not eye-popping but perfectly acceptable for a calendar, print quality. If I'd bought this as a fan of Modern Art (which I am) and planned to put this up on my wall I'd be disappointed though, and not even appreciating Pop Art in particular that calendar from the store seemed a much better purchase. |
