This textbook is the best intermediate to advanced statistics textbook currently available on the market today.The Excel instructions are self explanatory and include every step needed to apply a particular statistical procedure.The instructions for calculating joint probability tables and constructing tree diagrams are excellent and easy to follow.The example problems include all the steps.The notation used is simple,direct and straightforward.It will not cause any confusion for a student.The handling of p-values in hypothesis testing and multiple regression analysis is very well done.Based on my extensive teaching experience at the college and university level,I would highly recommend this book to a student, who is taking a statistics course that emphasizes applications, at the intermediate to advanced level.

I teach statistics, finance, accounting and math in a computer lab using Excel for 100% of the calculations. This book is the undisputed champion when it comes to teaching the subject matter perfectly integrated with Excel. I just wish that there was accounting, math and finance books that were as good as this book.

The problem is that there are only 5 stars here, when the book deserves 10:

should be given the highest award for teaching. They also should be recognized by Microsoft as Excel MVPs.

All of this high praise comes because of one fact: In the working world every field uses Excel. In academia, few classes actually teach what is done in the working world.

each chapter is well written, not dry to read, easy to understand. although they should probably write a new version using office 2007 excel.

If your course requires access to the Aplia website, this does not provide it. It just provides, an access to the book reference material online. The Aplia part requires a subscription of 90$ more which also includes the ebook. Not worth the price if it's required only for a course. Material is good.

Don't buy this book new thinking the "printed access card" will allow you to access a specific course's CNow homework/tests/etc. It will not. Per Cengage's tech support "Alex" when I asked why my course key wasn't being accepted after entering the access code from my new textbook:

"What you registered was Textbook Resources this isn't CengageNOW. Unless you have another access code that came with your book you may need to purchase a CengageNOW access code."

I was, however, helpfully provided a link where I could purchase a CengageNOW code for another $80 in addition to the $165 I'd already spent.

Moral of the story: Save your money and don't buy new if you need CengageNOW for your course. Buy used and buy the CNOW code separately.

OR

Buy the CengageNOW code for $80 and use the ebook that is provided along with that purchase.

The book looks well written and has good reviews overall, but I won't do any better than two stars for misdirection, lack of clarity, and Cengage's bait-and-switch approach.

I initially bought this book for Kindle. Huge mistake. The tables on the covers were illegible and they are needed for much of the work. So I wasted another $150 on top of the $90 and got this textbook new with cd and everything because I had experience with other Cengage textbooks that had helpful cds and online content. The cd only has the start of a couple of spreadsheets - no practice exercises or anything that makes getting the cd worthwhile. Online content? Ha! There is no student access to the powerpoints. There is no student access to practice exercises or tests. I was disappointed with the learning experience provided by this textbook. One probably has no choice whether to buy the book, but I highly recommend buying a used copy, with or without cd.

Hi All:

I just brought the 3rd edition of this book and it is 940 pages.
But I just noticed there is a 4th edition "Essentials of Modern Business Statistics " and it is only 716 pages.
Why is the latest edition much smaller than older edition.

Good book just had to wipe off the cover and wipe the side of the book. The conner missing, but other than that everything is fine.
