Purchased my first "Ball" about 6 months ago and it is flawless, powerful, quiet and very sturdy - the best fan ever! A month later I purchased another and it made a annoying humming noise like a cheap fan. Amazon was great and returned it. I reordered a replacement "Ball" and found the humming to be a bit better. However it's not nearly as quiet as the first one purchased. Additionally, the paint was poor quality on the edges of the blades and there was a scrape on the metal housing. For the price I would have expected better quality control. I would rate the first one I purchased a solid 5 stars, it's perfect. The others get a solid 1 star, they are not any better than a $50 fan from a big box store. I hope Modern Fan Company improves their quality, I would like to purchase from them again, but at this point I don't want the hassles. Amazon was great processing the return, if you do purchase make sure it's from Amazon or a merchant that provides hassle free returns. You might very well need it.

November 2011, decided to try my luck again with another one. It was perfect! Just like the first one it's silent and the blades were perfect, no defects. Still running great after 6 weeks. The original "perfect" one runs for at least 10 hours a day and continues to run silently. Upgraded to four stars from one, trying to give Modern Fan a fair review, maybe they just had a bad batch and or they have made some changes with their manufacturing.
