5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Mathematics Curriculum for the 2nd Grader, June 8, 2000
This review is from: Modern Curriculum Press Mathematics Level B (MCP MATHEMATICS) (Paperback)
Are you a homeschooler? A parent looking to supplement your 2nd grader's mathematics lessons? Then this is the text for you. Wonderfuly laid out, with attractive drawings that keep a child entertained -- it also educates them on every single page. With a start in refresher work, and then an easy transaction into new material with each unit, the student is bound to learn the needed facts in no time. By the end of the book they will be adding & subtracting, telling time, figuring out their own money matters, be counting to 1000 and so much, much more. From a homeschooling parent of three, this book is a permanent fixture in our home for each. Completely consumable or easily used as a copy book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Program, April 7, 2009
This review is from: Modern Curriculum Press Mathematics Level B (MCP MATHEMATICS) (Paperback)
This is an excellent program to supplement or teach Second Grade math. A few things about it, there is not alot of repetition, so if your child needs lots of repetition to really get good at math, then this would better suit you as a supplement. However, if your child is sick to death of repetition and busy work, then this is an excellent choice for homeschool.

The pages are red ink on natural colored paper. Some characters, and games, but mostly PLAIN OLD MATH without all the fluff. The teacher's edition is VERY helpful. The TE points out what kids might be thinking if they are making a certain kind of mistake, so that you know how to help them. It also has alot more activities to supplement the worktext with, and an answer key for speedy correcting.

Only thing I would have liked to see is a year end test at the end of the worktext. I plan on using Level C for our third grade curriculum this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Thorough, July 11, 2009
This review is from: Modern Curriculum Press Mathematics Level B (MCP MATHEMATICS) (Paperback)
This is the only math curriculum I will use until Algebra. Both of my kids (who approach math differently) are thriving in math because of MCP. This book (like the others--we've used A,B, and C) is thorough, rigorous enough without being too difficult to understand, and best of all it allows for mastery before moving on (I am not a fan of the "spiral" approach to math - I find that most skills imprint better on one's long-term memory when they are mastered before one moves on to the next thing). Two thumbs up for MCP math!

5.0 out of 5 stars Straight Forward, June 24, 2011

I home schooled my oldest son when he was 8 for one year. His math skills were one of the main struggles in public school. They used Every Day Math which contained so much fluff and extra "ways" of doing things that he was very confused. This straight forward approach worked very well for him. Old fashioned style that as parents we know exactly how to teach. We both enjoyed this curriculum and I have considered buying it for all my boys to do in addition to their public school math.

5.0 out of 5 stars Proper gradient for kids to learn, March 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Modern Curriculum Press Mathematics Level B (MCP MATHEMATICS) (Paperback)
I just wanted to say how much I love the MCP math workbooks. I have tried many math programs and while each has value I find that they lack a proper gradient. They skip around too much in difficulty so my kids suddenly find themselves lost. I have come back to these again and remembered this is why we have been successful with our math programs. With the price and 2 free shipping on Amazon they can't be beat.

I used this workbook as a supplement to my daughter's 1st grade math curriculum. Her math scores improved, and I highly recommend this for any parent looking math enrichment at home.
