After I saw the cover quilt for this book, I decided I must have it in my collection. The book as a whole does not disappoint, and it was really one of my favorites for the year! I tend to buy and review many quilting and sewing books, and this is genuinely one of my favorites for the modern aesthetic paired with, as the title suggests, classic and time-honored designs like the New York Beauty and Log Cabin. The photos and illustrations are clear, bright and beautiful, and the book benefits from having two experienced quilters as co-authors. You can really tell that their energies feed off of one another in this exciting quilting book. Highly recommended for your collection!

As a young-ish quilter I have noticed a lot of other young quilters tend to be very fabric focused in their quilting. Sometimes the complexity of the actual quilt design is simplified to show off a fabric. In doing so, one can lose out on some of the beautiful classic quilt designs out there. I love that this book shows quilters how you can tweak beautiful old designs by changing 1 or 2 things and still be able to make a beautiful, fresh quilt. It's a good marriage of the modern design and traditional design. I also liked the fact that the 2 different authors showed their own favorite technique. What works for one might not work for another. I like to press seams like Kelly but Andie's way might work better for someone else. It's refreshing not to have "you must always do it THIS EXACT WAY or you are wrong" shoved down your throat.

Great concept- enjoyed the book & enjoyed the craftsmanship of the quilts in the book, as well.

The quilts that the authors made are both beautiful and modern, but my two favorite things about the book are (1) the separate instructions given for each technique used and (2) the two authors' different approaches. A whole chapter is written on the techniques, such as installing a zipper, English paper-piecing hexagons, sewing curved seams; plus, additional instructions are given for things such as flying geese and Dresden plates. And their methods may be different, such as pressing seams open or to the side, which I like because they're saying that we can do what works for us. This is a must-have for the modern quilter.

This is a fantastic book and a great addition to any quilter's library - modern or otherwise. In addition to the patterns for the quilts and several other small projects, there are really simple illustrated instructions for lots of common techniques, such as english paper piecing, foundation paper piecing and installing zippers. It's a great reference not only for the projects in the book but for lots of other projects. I'll use this book again and again!

This is such a great book filled with beautiful projects for both the beginning and more advanced quilter. The designs are a cool and clean take on traditional quilts. The how-to sections are really well written in a fun and informative style. All of the projects are colorful and creative. This is a must buy!

I have completed sewing the modern log cabin quilt, which is on the cover. The quilt itself is easily cut and put together, but would appear somewhat complex to a non quilter when given as a gift. This is an excellent pattern for displaying your own home machine or longarm quilting, as the pattern is very modern in appearance and sleek.

I intend to start another of the patterns in the book this week, and expect to more than get my moneys worth in using the patterns and ideas. This is a well written book.
