This review is from: Modern Joseki and Fuseki (Ishi Press Go) (Paperback)
This book is the second book by Master Sakata Eio and is titled "Modern Joseki and Fuseki - Volume 2 The Opening Theory Of Go." It and Modern Joseki and Fuseki Volume 1: Parallel Fuseki are studies of the opening moves of actual games, including the oldest recorded Japanese game in 1253. There are also game openings played by Master Sakata, who provides commentary and insight, along with alternative plays. I am a total beginner and have not played a game yet, but have bought a number of books and watched online a little. This book is over my head, but I will be glad to study it after I have played some games. It is a well written book best suited to someone who has played and is looking to get stronger in their opening game. For total beginners like myself, I recommend "Go: More Than A Game" as a good starting point. It has very fine historical, cultural, and philosophical references intertwined with an introduction to play well suited to a beginner. I am looking foreward to studying Honinbo Sakata's several books when the time is right. I am sure he will be an excellent teacher. Also recommended - "The Master of Go" by Yasunari Kawabata, a fictionalized account of a championship game played in 1938, and an allegory of the nature of change, it seems.
