John Sheehan is an Awesome Talent, I was blown away!,
By Dean Dobbs (Highland Lakes, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Modern Man (Audio CD)
This collection of songs by John is outstanding. I queued up the cd and listened to it 6 times before giving it a rest. John's Acoustic & Electric guitar work here is top notch, his banjo playing as if his fingers were aflame and the musicians he has chosen to accompany him are perfect. While listening to this cd I conjured up visions of Jorma, CSNY, Michael Hedges and Jimmy Page. Track 7 entitled 'Trout & Daylilies' reminds me of acoustic Jimmy from Led Zep III days. Track 8 titled Custer's last stand reminds me of CSNY and then there's Track 13 which is very similar in style to John Prine's songwriting style. But the best part about this cd is that it is pure John Sheehan. I've had a chance to see him live and it's a great experience but if you can't see him live you must buy this CD to see what he's all about. John has woven a fine and delicate but strong tapestry of all of his instrumental, lyrical and vocal talents into this beautiful collection. Rock & Roll, Blues, Country, Rag Time, Bluegrass there all here buy this CD. Finger Pickers, Guitarist and Banjo players alike, this means you! |
