Book Description

January 29, 1991
In Modern Pace Handicapping, Tom Brohamer, a leading practitioner of the Sartin methodology and one of the handful of men able to make a living from handicapping, shares his knowledge of pace (the horses's rate of speed and the factors affecting it) and turns the handicapping world on its ear. Charts throughout.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Brohamer used the Sartin methodology of pace handicapping to develop his own technique for handicapping horse races. His system considers running styles, turn times, track variants, energy distribution, and par times in predicting race strategy and outcome. Daily Racing Form charts (not seen) illustrate the book. Brohamer relies on a hand-held calculator to compound ratings and generate energy percentages, something that may scare away weekend handicappers unwilling to devote hours to mathematical figuring and Form chartkeeping. Recommended for serious handicappers and libraries with strong racing collections.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Edge Needed to Beat the Public, March 23, 2000
By
This review is from: Modern Pace Handicapping (Hardcover)
To put it plain and simple... If you play the horses regularly and do not own this book, you deserve to lose. If you play for recreation, it's fine to lose consistently. But if you attack the track 5 days a week like me, it takes a higher level of confidence to go back again and again. And you only go back if you're winning. This book is essential for winning. Without it you leave yourself in the dark about countless things which make the track so complex. We're not playing blackjack here. (In no specific order) Track bias, Pace, Form, Sartin, Decision Model, and many other topics make this book one of the best. Do not read at your own risk. It's your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for any serious handicapper, November 19, 1999
By
This review is from: Modern Pace Handicapping (Hardcover)
If you are serious about horseracing and want to beat the public, this is the book for you. Tom Brohamer introduction to the reader of Dr. Howard Sartin's methodology on pace handicapping will change the way you look at horse racing forever. After reading this book you may want to find out more about Sartin methodology, and eventually obtain an easy to use computer program to make your handicapping job much easier and more effective. I hit a $2400 trifecta using this method last month.
