Great book for beginner or intermediate hobbyist,
By Nancy Johnson (Falls Church, Virginia United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Modern Reef Aquarium (Hardcover)
This is a fantastic book that gives a low-tech approach to creating a reef aquarium that includes set-up information, how to choose an appropriate species mix, and how to maintain the tank. It also has really gorgeous photography. Although it isn't long, it's very inclusive.I am a freshwater hobbyist who is thinking about setting up a small reef tank. Published in 1994, about the only thing this book does not cover is up-to-date protein skimmers. However, it gives a great description of how to build your own skimmer, which back in 1993 when it was written was probably the best way to get one! I am very impressed with this book. I have read several books in preparation for investing in a reef tank, and this is by far the best I've seen.

Please Define Modern,
This review is from: The Modern Reef Aquarium (Hardcover)
an interesting book. I needed to pay a bit more attention to the publish date to figure out what "modern" meant. Not bad for beginners looking for some enlightenment.
