More About the Author

Michael Bunker is a USA Today Bestselling author, off-gridder, husband, and father of four children. He lives with his family in a "plain" community in Central Texas, where he reads and writes books...and occasionally tilts at windmills.

Michael has been called the "father" of the Amish/Scifi genre but that isn't all that he writes. He is the author of several popular and acclaimed works of dystopian sci-fi, including the Amazon top 20 bestselling Amish Sci-fi thriller the Pennsylvania Omnibus, the groundbreaking dystopian vision Hugh Howey called "a brilliant tale of extra-planetary colonization." He also has written the epic post-apocalyptic WICK series, The Silo Archipelago (set in Hugh Howey's World of WOOL,) as well as many nonfiction works, including the non-fiction Amazon overall top 30 bestseller Surviving Off Off-Grid. Michael was commissioned by Amazon.com through their Kindle Worlds and Kindle Serials programs to write the first ever commissioned novel set in the World of Kurt Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle. That book is entitled Osage Two Diamonds, and it debuted on Dec. 17, 2013.

In late April of 2015, Michael released his novel Brother, Frankenstein to fantastic reviews.

Michael has been featured on NPR, HuffPost Live, and Ozy.com and was recently interviewed in a Medium.com article that will give you more background and insight into his life and works... http://bit.ly/17YbE63.

On November 21st, 2014 Tales From Pennsylvania, a fanfic short story anthology featuring 10 top speculative fiction authors writing fanfic short stories in the world of Michael Bunker's Pennsylvania, was released in paperback and e-book format. More than twenty authors have been (or will be) writing fanfic in the world of MB's Pennsylvania.

Michael recently joined with hybrid bestselling author Nick Cole (author of The Wasteland Saga and Soda Pop Soldier,) Social Media whiz Rob Mclellan of Thirdscribe.com, and book marketing guru and coach Tim Grahl (author of Your First 1,000 Copies) to form a new company called Wonderment Media. Wonderment is launching a new apocalyptic world called Apocalypse Weird and is bringing on dozens of the best and brightest authors in speculative fiction to write books in the Apocalypse Weird world. Attempting something that has never been done before in digital publishing, AW launched with a free teaser novel on November 28th of 2014 (Nick Cole's - The Red King) and launched five full novels in the AW world on the same day - February 23rd, 2015. AW now publishes two new AW books every month. Michael Bunker and Nick Cole wrote the apocalyptic novel TEXOCALYPSE NOW as part of the Apocalypse Weird world.

Prov.4:23 - "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life."

This verse is a summary of the many, many verses found in Proverbs that discuss the condition of the heart and the necessity of keeping it pure and clean (just do a search for the word "heart" in the Proverbs, and you'll see what I mean). From the heart springs the motivations of our actions; and in fact, the heart is what is changed when a person is regenerated or quickened by the Holy Spirit to new life (Ez. 11:19-20). Thus, it is vitally important to focus on the heart in our duties of watchfulness and examination (Matt. 26:14; 2 Cor. 13:5).

Sadly, as a result of the fall, the heart of man has a real problem: Jer. 17:9 - "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" This should cause us to put forth that much more effort, with God's help, in our duties in guarding the heart. Further, when Christ was here on earth, He was concerned not so much with an outward show of religion as He was the inward motivations of the heart. (Matt. 5:27-28; Matt. 15:8; Matt. 19:16-24).

Webster's 1828 dictionary defines idolatry one way as "Excessive attachment or veneration for any thing, or that which borders on adoration." Modern "Christianity" doesn't look much different in any way than the world, in dress, behavior, talk, etc. In fact, most churches TRY to look like the world, to be attractive to it!! But Rom. 12:2 says, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." And so, why would modern "Christianity" be this way?

Iconoclast Michael Bunker pulls no punches in his book "Modern Religious Idols". Here the author follows in the vein of the prophets of old whose responsibility it was to expose the idolatries of those who profess to be followers of the One true and Living GOD: the GOD of the Holy Bible. Here the author uncovers the modern fallacies of our so-called sophisticated age, of our so-called enlightenment and progressiveness. This book shines a glaring light on the idols lurking in the darkness of our modern sinful and desperately wicked hearts. Today we pride ourselves to have moved beyond the idolatries of old when in reality the idols of today are probably more numerous and much more dangerous than ever before because they are hidden behind the veil of a hypocritical religiosity and easy believism where all that counts for Christianity today is walking an aisle to an imaginary altar and mouthing a prayer to a modern prophet of Baal who will gladly assure you of your "salvation" as long as a coin in the coffer rings. Michael Bunker systematically smashes the pernicious lies of our day exposing them for what they really are, nothing more than a sophisticated form of idol worship. Properly using the Word of GOD (the Holy Bible) and the proper application of righteous indignation, Bunker demolishes these invisible icons teeming in the heart of modern man. Although "Modern Religious Idols" is a painfully convicting read it is designed for the good of those who are truly serious in their desire to honor the only true GOD, Whom they profess to believe in.Read more ›

If you've ever wondered what happened to idolatry as described in the Old Testament, this book gives the answer. It is clearly written and easy to understand. It is a challenging read because it exposes the truth found one's heart; certainly in my heart. If you're brave enough to read it, love the Lord Jesus Christ and the truth you'll find much to repent about. It starts with probably the most common idol in modern Christianity and builds from there. Every professing Christian would benefit from reading and hearing this book. Your heart will never be the same. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

This book is a take it or leave it hard truth about how most people in the western world live.
They may believe that they are good people, living a good life and that at heart they are good Christians but the society that we all live in has many pitfalls within it.
This book does not try to give you all the answers of how to live as a Christian, it only points out the truth that we have been fed a comfortable lie about what is right and wrong from God's point of view. Nobody can be perfect before God by trying to live a good life, but we should investigate what He has told us about how we should live our lives from His written word and turn from what is wrong.
Many will say that this is all rubbish but that's your choice.

This book is an outstanding expose' of some of the most common ways in which modern professing Christians are kept from more perfectly seeing the kingdom of God and entering into it. The material presented in it could change one's life and worldview profoundly, if only it is studied and received with the Spirit's aid in loving the truth.
It is a difficult read on several levels: First because it delves deeply into scripture and requires diligent attention, and secondly because it will expose the lies you have believed about yourself, the world and God. One of the most important books few will ever read! Get yourself a copy and pray for the Lord to search your soul and give repentance and healing as needed.
