Editorial Reviews

In 2008 the members of Chief finished school, left New York City and returned home to the west coast with their suitcases stuffed full of soaring melodies, shimmering guitars, lovelorn lyrics and heart-stopping harmonies. Their debut album, Modern Rituals, is as rich and expansive as it is personal and intricate. This is a record so teeming with joyful desperation that youâ TMll want to hold onto it with all your might. Modern Rituals is not only a radiant, cohesive and effortlessly captivating introduction to a formidable new band, itâ TMs a contender for most contagious album of the year.

4.0 out of 5 stars impressive album January 9, 2011
Format:Audio CD
This album got a very poor review in MOJO, a magazine I like very much. But I had heard some good things about this band so I took a chance on this album, and was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. Very good songs, skillfully crafted, and pleasing harmonies. the album's closing song, "Night and Day" is one that will really hook you and not let go. Overall, this is not exactly the "70s rock" influence that I read in one review, but you'll find plenty of very good songs that could fit in almost any recent era of modern rock. Looking forward to hearing more music from this band.

5.0 out of 5 stars I stumbled upon a lovely gem. February 16, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Every once in a while I'll look up a band I like and then I start clicking on random bands I've never heard of before. This was one of those bands. All the videos were Acoustic and I loved them all so I finally decided to buy the album. I am not disappointed with their studio version. It's still really great. The music sometimes makes me get in a pensive kind of moment, but I think that's because of the lead singer's voice. Gosh, it's awesome! Anyway, I wouldn't categorize this as fast-paced music, so just know that from the start. Super duper well done, though! It has some darn good lyrical content. Just listen to the song previews here on Amazon and friggin' buy it!

These guys have a great sound. Layed back, West coast sound with great lyrics. The more I listen to the album, the more it grows on me. Would recommend it to anyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars New Trend October 3, 2010
By wbmoist
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I like the new trend music seems to be falling back into. Being a child of the '60s my standard is pretty high (I'm still finding "new" music from way back then. This collection is indicative of many artists who are returning to the importance of melody and harmony matched with something worth saying.
