Super Mid-80's Collection,

Many of the better songs from the mid-80's can be found on this CD. I think that Rhino may have copied a play list from the the Bay Area radio station the Quake (now Live 105) in 1987 to come up with this set of music. At any rate, they made an excellent choice. Some of the very best (if not the best) material from bands such as R.E.M., Love & Rockets, New Order, Psychedelic Furs, Concrete Blonde, Julian Cope, and Hoodoo Gurus is included here. Icicle Works epic "Understanding Jane" and the Bangles cover "Hazy Shade of Winter" are welcome gems too. The only song that I don't like is "Fight Like a Brave" which is too hip hop for my taste. In general, this CD encapsulates some of the best New Wave melodies of the period. It is difficult not to bop around the house when this CD is played. Gina S. |
