Editorial Reviews

Bobby Selvaggio: alto & soprano saxophones
Kenny Werner: piano (tracks 3,4,5,7,9,10)
Sean Jones: trumpet (tracks 1,2,6,8)
Matt Wigton: bass
Nathan Douds: drums
Dan Murphy: piano
Paul Tynan: flugelhorn

Modern Times is Bobby Selvaggio s fifth CD as a leader and a major step forward for the saxophonist. Filled primarily with his new compositions, many of which were written specifically for his sidemen, this set is a major statement in modern post bop jazz.

I bought this because Sean Jones was featured, and he's brilliant on the three selections on which he plays. Sean fits splendidly into a lot of settings. The rest of the CD is a delight--well-coordinated and vigorous, with fine work from people whose work I didn't know (except for Nathan Douds on drums). A winner.
