5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on the market for strength training!
After working 7 years in the buisness of strength and conditioning I have never read a more comprehensive and hands on book pertaining to strength training.

With 24 years of experience and service dedicated to athletic achievement, coach Poliquin offers the reader some of his most effective methods for developing strength.

Following a recent internship with coach...

3.0 out of 5 stars Very short overview of his articles
This is not a bad book, and it does have some good training material, but it contains very little information...hardly thorough enough to warrant [the price]. In fact, it's basically a 10-page document stretched out to 50 pages by using a large font and huge margins...

1.0 out of 5 stars Plenty of hype, very little substance, December 30, 2004

I felt absolutely ripped off. Having read many of his columns and Poliquin Principles, I found Charles to be very informative and thought provoking in the past. But this book is nothing more than a brochure disguised as a book. Most of his ideas were either already well known or highly questionable. Also, he did not even attempt to explain the theories behind his ideas or provide any scientific references. This is simply a way for him to make more money. Stay away. Don't waste your money.

After working 7 years in the buisness of strength and conditioning I have never read a more comprehensive and hands on book pertaining to strength training.

With 24 years of experience and service dedicated to athletic achievement, coach Poliquin offers the reader some of his most effective methods for developing strength.

Following a recent internship with coach Poliquin, I quickly realised that these very methods that was written about in his book were routinely used with all his elite athletes. Poliquin's success with all his professional athletes makes it very difficult to argue with his methods!

This book is a definate must for all strength coaches and college athletes who want the winning edge on the field. The low retail price of this book makes it a clear steal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern trends in Strength Training, January 1, 2010

This is an excellent text as it is a practical manual - you can test the methodologies here. The data in the book is backed up by the analysis of Poliquin's athletes over an extended period of time with multiple advanced athletes at the top of their game.Methodologies are presented based on their effectiveness and what is required to achieve similar results. e.g.theses athletes needed to complete "X" amount of reps at "X" percentage of your 1 rep max to elicit an improvement in strength etc.
There are very few books around with this type of data presented in a clear an concise style. If you picked this book up for in depth theoretical information I would suggest Mel Siff's book Super-training which has a lot more scientific data - if however you picked the book up to apply the knowledge within then you will become extremely knowledgeable over time with the advanced practical methodologies present within. After working 7 years in the buisness of strength training I have never picked up a more comprehensive and hands on manual for developing strength!
This book sums up a wealth of experience and information that Poliquin has gathered throughout the 24 years of dedicated service to athletic achievement. After attenting an internship at the Poliquin Performance Center in Tempe Arizona, I quickly realised that Poliquin applies these very principles with his elite athletes. What I really enjoyed about this book is the immediate impact that it had on my professional career! The methods and techniques outlined in this book may be immediately implimented in your own training methods.

His to the point style of writing makes it an easy read.

I highly recommend this book to any strength coach and college athlete who wants to have an edge over the competition. The retail price of this book makes it a clear steal.

This book only leaves me wanting the upcoming volumes. I almost wish Coach Poliquin would retire and just write more books!

1.0 out of 5 stars Mumbo Jumbo, September 22, 2003

This review is from: Modern Trends in Strength Training: Volume 1, Sets and Reps (Second Edition) (Paperback)
This book is a sad attempt to cash in on the notion that weightlifting is a complex science. Any book on weighlifting that contains graphs, mathematical formulae, and a "law of" for nearly every section is just a waste of time. This book is a complete waste of money and time. Shame on the author for pushing this drivel. To him I say "shut up and lift".
