4.0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive, entry-level text that reads easily, August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Modern Vacuum Practice (Hardcover)
"Modern Vacuum Practice" by Nigel Harris is an easy book to read, and it follows well. Although there are many books available on the subject of vacuum technology, not too many of them incorporate latest technologies in hybrid pumps, dry pumps, and gauging. In other words, Harris has included the most recent advances in vacuum in his book. "Modern Vacuum Practice" does not bog the reader down with tedious mathematical equations and a lot of physics-related theory. But, rather offers easy text that explains well what theory otherwise leaves to the reader. For the technician, this is a book that should be on the "must read" list because it describes the fundamental concepts of vacuum technology, and describes basic equipment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Vacuum Practice 3rd edition, available in the USA, November 28, 2008
This review is from: Modern Vacuum Practice (Hardcover)
Modern Vacuum Practice
"Modern Vacuum Practice" is an excellent introduction to vacuum pumps, vacuum measurement, applications, system design and basic vacuum physics theory. Written in an easy to understand style, assuming the reader has little or no previous vacuum technology knowledge, Mr. Harris covers the basics of all pressures lower than atmospheric pressure concentrating on the medium and high vacuum ranges. This new edition has added about 100 pages including new technology regarding dry pumping, hybrid pumps and vacuum gauging, and also has a new Q&A section useful for teaching institutions. This edition is now stocked in the USA for easy access by US and Canadian students of vacuum technology. It can be purchased from Amazon.com or from www.vacuumandlowpressure.com. Note that the blue/yellow and yellow/blue covered editions are the 1st and 2nd respectively and do not include the latest vacuum technology. This new edition is ISBN 09555150116.
