The Modernist Jewelry of Claire Falkenstein features over 100 examples of forged and cast metal jewelry - rings, earrings, necklaces, buttons, brooches, pendants, bracelets, and vest-like body ornaments - created between 1945 and 1980 by the pioneering California-based sculptor Claire Falkenstein (1908 - 1997). The exhibition is co-curated by Falkenstein scholar Maren Henderson and LBMA Director Harold B. Nelson.

Widely known for the iron and colored glass gates she made in 1961 for Peggy Guggenheim's Palazzo Venier dei Leoni in Venice, American-born artist Claire Falkenstein created a vast body of work in a wide array of materials. Although best known for her forged metal sculpture, she also created paintings, ceramics, prints, stained glass windows, and jewelry. Throughout her long and productive career, Falkenstein frequently experimented with various craft media as a means of exploring new ideas, forms and materials, and as a vehicle for integrating art and daily life. Her stunning forged and cast metal jewelry was among the finest work produced during these years of exploration and experiment. The Modernist Jewelry of Claire Falkenstein is accompanied by a full-color, 72-page catalogue.
