Book Description

This is a sexy suspense short fiction novella that has an interesting premise. Mr. Duck has created a strong, but vulnerable, woman who needs to face her past and get on with her future.
---Eclectic Reviews---

A picture is worth a thousand words. Especially for wives (and husbands) out to discover the truth about their mates. Terri Welker, "infidelity photographer extraordinaire", supplies that truth. But her own comfort is severely tested when she receives several calls from an unfamiliar number. The man who raped and tormented her years ago has tracked her down all these miles away. And this time Terri refuses to run. She’ll stay and fight for the new life she’s created.

The unusual premise, great characters, and intriguing plot made this a fun, highly enjoyable read. I really can't wait to find out what happens next.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read, with a caveat or two.... March 2, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a story about a woman's struggle with her past (and present and future), although I didn't think there was much romance or suspense. Instead, I thought it was a good solid story, with characters I liked and a plot that was plausible. There were revelations at the end of many chapters, and I enjoyed these "ah ha" moments. I like stories that develop the characters to the point I can "visualize" them, and this one fit that bill. On the negative side, there were some parts of the book that simply aren't my cup of tea. There's some (minimal) graphic language that I though detracted from the book. I'm not against sexual scenes or language IF it adds to the plot, and in this case I don't think it did. I also found the frequent "name dropping" of brands (such as Kindle, Hanes, Perry Ellis, Suzuki) annoying. These are my personal preferences. If I was rating the book based primarily on this, I'd rate it a 3 star. However, because I like the characters and plot as much as I did, I rated it a 4 star.

4.0 out of 5 stars Modesty September 3, 2011
By BigAl
Format:Kindle Edition
In a word, different is how I would describe "Modesty." The characters- Terri Welker, the protagonist, along with the supporting cast- are different from the typical. The premise of the story is different from the norm. They say there are only so many different stories, and I'm sure this fits the pattern of one of them, but the unique spin Duck puts on the story ingredients make it feel new. Okay, different. And different is good.

Because of these differences, it seemed like the suspense aspect of the book had me on edge more. It felt less predictable. I wasn't sure what direction the story was going to go. I had no idea what the resolution might be. In many ways, "Modesty" resembles a psychological thriller as much as romantic suspense. Whatever you call it, "Modesty" should keep you turning pages and guessing at how it will all end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Story :) March 2, 2011

I really liked this story. The characters were dynamic, diverse and well developed. The descriptions of the characters were nicely detailed and I was able to visualize each one in my head. I could genuinely feel for Terri and what she was struggling with now, as well as in her past. I didn't mind the mention of music or brands in this book, in fact I even stopped for a moment to download some of the music. I didn't find much romance here, which was fine. I noticed some places where the author was going for suspense. I'm really glad I gave this book a try because I usually don't read anything mentioning romance. I will definitely read from this author again.

Eight calls...
From an unfamiliar number...
For rape survivor and "infidelity photographer" Terri Welker she has secrets. Secrets she has spent 4 years burying deep within her self. Secrets she has spent 4 years hiding from. Could those 8 calls be the end to the peace of mind that Terri has worked so hard to achieve?

I found the story to be interesting and it takes turns I never saw coming. Reading Terri's story the way it is written makes you really care about Terri and what has brought her to this point.

4.0 out of 5 stars good stand alone quick read April 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
No need to read the first book in the series to enjoy this one. I read this one first (hey, it was free) and then turned around and purchased the 1st book for .99 cents for my kindle. I happen to like this book better than the first.

I was hooked by the first page, and the charaters developed nicely for me. I grew to absolutely love a few of the characters that painted such a lovely picture in my mind. There were several AHA! moments that I was thankful for rather than the usual story line that develops as any other book would. I like that it surprised me. Along with the surprises though I could have done without a few of the side storylines. The nightly phonecall to her father and how that all played out really was an aside that made no impact on me as far as the story being told went. I was also disappointed with how one key relationship climaxed and then dwindled. Something tells me that there is nothing more left to the story but maybe I'm wrong. Maybe there is a 3rd book in the series I need to hunt down to find the conclusion I am looking for.
