1.0 out of 5 stars I Returned This Book, July 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Build and Modify Intake and Exhaust Systems (Motorbooks Workshop) (Paperback)
This book is not at all what I expected. It is a *really* basic approach to how this stuff works. No real theory at all. I decided to return it within ten minutes of receipt. I like Watson's style, but I did not like the book. It would be good for a newbie who doesn't know anything yet. A better title would be 'General Information on Really, Really Basic Principles of Automotive Operations: With EFI' or 'Induction for Dummies: When to Use a Dual-Plane Intake'. The book is mistitled; I'd give it 2.5 stars, but the title gets Zero stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good informational book, but title is misleading, September 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Build and Modify Intake and Exhaust Systems (Motorbooks Workshop) (Paperback)
Watson's book is quite informational, though I have to admit I did not read it cover to cover. I assumed that the book was written for hints and formulas to custom fabricate intake manifolds and exhaust headers. I was incorrect, the book explains several different types of intakes, and such, covering carburetors, forced induction, emissions, exhaust, and the likes. However nothing is given on fabrication of said parts.

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading and poorly published, May 9, 2000

Tony Rausch (Great Falls, MT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to Build and Modify Intake and Exhaust Systems (Motorbooks Workshop) (Paperback)
5/9/00

This book has many typo errors and is poorly published. Example: Page 101 continues on page 104, while page 102 starts in the middle of a paragraph that has no beginning anywhere in the book.

Mr Watson has some nice pictures but does not cover even basic theory. He quotes others and repeats himself. The technological shallowness makes the title misleanding. If you can modify an exhaust system after reading this book, you did not need it to began with!

Mr Watson does give some funny stoies, so if you want a joke book this could be it!
