I purchased this unit to provide backup heat for my hydroponic greenhouse. Primary system is a radiant heat system in the floor, but installed the Modine as a back up in case the floor could not keep greenhouse up to temperature.

Had a professional install the system, and verified it was working properly. Basically, the unit just sat there, as the floor heating could maintain the greenhouse without assistance. I periodically test the Modine, just to make sure it is still working. Yesterday it would not come on. Had a serviceman come out, and he indicated the control board was out.

This turns out to be a $350 repair on a unit that was run less than an hour in its lifetime. Since the unit is out of warranty, I had to pay for the repair.

I consider this to be unacceptable, and to me shows this company has no quality control at all, and is using inferior/subpar electronics in its heater units.

This was a new install for a warehouse operation. It was never used, went to use it today and it does not work, I called the repair shop and was told it is the circuit board. $245 and the warrantee expired this past fall. This unit was NEVER used.
DO NOT BUY, it is JUNK!

I bought one of these when ordering my greenhouse kit, not from Amazon. It worked great the first two winters, but it sure does suck down some propane. I test fired it as temperatures were dropping, now that the warranty's just expired, and it won't work. The closest repair guy for these heaters is quite a drive away. He came and worked on it for a while, and said he thought it was the board. All the components work, but they won't all work together. It just goes on and off in a useless manner, if it even goes on at all. He's still trying to confirm that's the problem, but says a new board is $250 for a heater I paid $600 for. At least the repair guy didn't charge me anything since he hasn't fixed it, but I'm expecting it's going to cost well over half the price of the heater to get it installed and going again. That's pretty crappy if you ask me.

I'm not sure why we can't get anything made in the USA that's got any quality to it.

I had the same thing happen to my Modine hot dawg heater. The circuit board burned out the first winter I used the heater, immediately after the warranty was up. The place I bought my repair part said this is an upgraded part because Modine was having problems with the original. I replaced it myself for $75 dollars. Modine should have covered the part since they knew it was a crappy part to start with. It has worked good now for five winters but has gone out again this four day Thanksgiving day weekend and cant get parts till Monday. Sucks because it is my only heat in my workshop in Alaska at -10,I have a lot of fluids that I had to move so they would not be destroyed from freezing. Don't think Ill ever buy another Modine hot dawg heater.
