Product Description

Color: White

Say hello to ModKat. The award winning modern cat litter box that keeps litter in its place. Who says a litter box can't embrace form as well as function, work with your décor and provide an unparalleled experience for your cat. Not us. The award winning Modkat Litter Box is the answer. Its modern design complements any room, while the enclosed base and "rooftop access" allows your cat the privacy needed to do his or her business. Every detail of this patented design has been thoughtfully considered. The locking lid acts as a walk-off mat keeping litter off your floors while keeping small dogs from enjoying the "treats" inside. An ergonomic scoop with incorporated brush stows neatly on the side and the reusable litter liner is friendly to your wallet and the environment.

I've had mine for several months now and there isn't a day that passes where I'm not glad I bought this. The top entry litter system has reduced at least 90% of litter tracking. Before this litter, I'd know whenever the cats went to the bathroom just by feeling grains on the floor with my feet. Since I've gotten it, I actually have to look into the litter to know.

With a baby on the way, knowing there isn't litter on the ground is such a relief. The small top entry system would also make it really hard for toddlers and dogs to get in. There are other cheaper top entry litter boxes, and I'm guessing they work just as well, but this one definitely works for sure. It's pricey but worth it's material. Hi quality construction that lasts, and it looks great -- I've moved it to by my work area and it looks great and keeps clean.

The only Con isn't the litterbox itself but the scoop that comes with it. The fact that it easily attaches to the side is great but the scoop is poorly designed for several reasons (litter actually gets in the handle sometime and it's hard to pick up tiny clumps, which I normally could with a corner of regular scoops). But the solution is simple... I got my own scoop.

We purchased two Modkats for our medium-sized 1 bedroom apartment (black and white). Our major issue with the standard litter pan that the cats tracked litter all over the place. They also flung litter out of the pan as they dug down. The Modkat has been great for preventing litter from getting everywhere, both with keeping it in and cleaning the cats' feet with the corrugated top. My major issue with the Modkat is that the cats stopped burying their waste. I don't know if it is because the box is too small for them to maneuver around and bury the waste or the fact that a lid conceals the waste. Regardless of the depth or brand of the litter, the smell permeates until we remove the waste. Prior to the Modkat, the cats were able to step outside the litter pan and cover the waste. This may well be a problem with any covered litter box versus a pan.

I'm not sure if other owners have experienced this problem with their cats. But if you are looking to change from a pan to a covered box, try a cheaper box first to determine if your cat will still bury its waste so you're not breaking the bank (Modkat is $$$).

For the sake of the design of the Modkat I give it a good review. The cats went straight over to it almost immediately after we installed it. It is easy to clean with the removable litter liner, and the accompanying scoop/brush works well. It has an attractive design and rarely draws people's attention as a litter box. It cut down on the litter mess by almost 100%, but we will continue to struggle with the smell until we solve the problem. Perhaps our cats are just going through their defiant teenage years.

I purchased this litter box in white directly from Modkat about a month ago. I had been on the fence for over a year...it was incredibly chic (as far as litter boxes go), but way too expensive for a glorified turd holder. I'm lazy and cheap- I had been getting disposable litter pans that came preloaded with litter from HEB for $2 apiece, so I was reluctant to both spend more and have to sift through cat litter like a pathetic gold rush miner, exclaiming over each newly discovered poop nugget. Not only that, but my two cats are among the fattest, clumsiest, and stupidest I've ever met. At 20 lbs. each, I was concerned the box would be far too small for them to even enter, let alone relax, do a crossword, and answer nature's call. I was also worried it might be too tricky for them to figure out, or that they might step in their poo and track it all over my apartment.

Looking back, my only regret is that I didn't buy this sooner. My cats' fat furry butts fit into it just fine, and they adjusted incredibly quickly (I switched their litter boxes cold turkey). It also looks decent in my cramped apartment's living room, so visitors don't immediately pick up on the crazy cat lady vibe. It's made of pretty high quality plastic and is easy to clean, just make sure to dump out all the litter and clean the liner about once a week so that things don't get funky smelling.

P.S. I was worried that the blue tarp-like liner would confuse my cats and encourage them to poo in my blue reusable ikea bags, but so far that has not been an issue.

I debated spending $180 on a designer cat box for almost a year. Was it just my love of design making me want it? Would it really be worth the expense?

I was already sick and tired of having litter tracked through my office space, but it was the anticipation of a baby which would require moving the box out of the shower in the guest bedroom and directly into my office that convinced me to try it. You can't escape the smell when they first use it -- it's a fact of life, people -- but it's no worse than the average box and at least it won't look like a litter box when clients come to visit. I also liked the idea that it would be much more difficult for a baby to get into (I remember watching a friend's baby make a bee line for the cat poop every time).

So I decided to suck it up and buy it. I chose to purchase directly from ModKat in case my 13-yer-old cat couldn't get used to it (they have a 30-dy return policy). My cat was hesitant at first, but I gave her no option -- I removed the old box and put the new one in its place. Watching her get in the first time was pretty funny, but she got used to it after a couple of days and seems to like it just fine. I think she prefers the privacy it offers. She has figured out how to use the real estate strategically so she doesn't have to sully her paws when she hops in.

The best part? It really has reduced the amount of litter outside of the box by 90%! She used to kick the litter straight out the opening spraying it everywhere, then she'd walk over it on her way out spreading it throughout the whole area. Now it's just a few granules here and there. I also find it easier to keep the box clean with the top access. The top swivels and lifts out so easily, making for easy access.
