5.0 out of 5 stars Correction on previous reviews
I read some previous reviews about this item and wanted to correct the record. You can't use this instead of a router or a hub. It is completely different.

A standard 10baseT cable has 8 contacts (wires). For data, you use only 4 of those 8 wires for a single connection. This device splits the wires into 2 lines, so you don't have to run a second cat5 cable...

Don't buy this thing..it's trash. I just got it to try it out and it doesn't work at all. It works fine with one ethernet wire in, but once i plug in a second, I get no connectivity from either computer. Save your 8 bucks for a router.

This review is from: Modular Splitter T-adapter RJ45m/2 RJ45f 8 Contacts (Personal Computers)
I read some previous reviews about this item and wanted to correct the record. You can't use this instead of a router or a hub. It is completely different.

A standard 10baseT cable has 8 contacts (wires). For data, you use only 4 of those 8 wires for a single connection. This device splits the wires into 2 lines, so you don't have to run a second cat5 cable. You will need a splitter on both ends of your cable run for this to work. You can't just attach it to 1 end and expect it to work. You will not have a connection unless the device is at both ends of the cable run. This is not a video splitter.

Also, another review said 8 contacts means units. Contacts are connections or wires - which means a standard RJ45 which has 8 wires.

This unit really should not be sold here, but in a specialty store where the audience is more technical and knowledgeable of what they are buying.
