4.0 out of 5 stars moe. is worth the dough!
"Live from the Fillmore" is a very good snapshot of a moe. show. In terms of benefits, the setlist is satisfying. Many songs from the moe. canon are featured. The highlight may be 'Timmy Tucker > Tailspin.' While not a five star setlist, the selections demonstrate music with extended improvisation and good song craftsmanship. 2.0 out of 5 stars I can barely hear Chuck
I have to contradict the other review. I thought it was shot fine, but the sound was not good. Moe is a two guitar band and I believe the strength of the band is the way the two guitar players play off each other. On the DVD, Al is real loud, but Chuck's guitar is almost completely inaudible. This is a real big disappointment to me. I really like moe, but I would not...

Also, the audio quality is excellent. Currently, this is the only way to enjoy the band in a surround sound environment. The audio editor did good work; typically, the audience is enjoyed in the rear speakers while the band is heard from the front. In terms of drawbacks, the video quality is mediocre. Pixilation is apparent to the extent that "Live from the Fillmore" often looks like a good fan generated download. Fortunately, the video editing and original videography is well done -the problem seems to lie in the final transfer. Some of the interviews are informative as when the band discusses their formation. Other parts are predictable, as when the audience is described as being the sixth member. While moe. has played better shows, this is still a persuasive view of a great live band. For the uninitiated and fans alike, "Live from the Fillmore" is a compelling portrait of one of the scene's best jambands.

5.0 out of 5 stars extremely good in all respects, January 7, 2007

hmm.... i guess i'd have to disagree with both of the other reviews here. the video is terrific, and i can hear all instruments clearly and well on my home theatre system- the dts sound production is a huge plus. i have more concert dvd's than i know what to do with, and this one really rates right up there among the best. these guys are on fire! moe lays it down thick, fluid and smooth. very well worth the money.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Music solid, video sub-par, October 15, 2006
By
This review is from: Moe: Live From the Fillmore (DVD)
Let's start with the band. The slogan "Got moe?" is perfect (and my personalized license plate). If you get the band, than this DVD is for you. The music quality is great, with a few DTS and DD 5.1 tricks. The songs are tight and jams are quite imaginative. Video quality is sub-par. It gives the impression of a mid 80's MTV debut video. It has too much of a "video quality" and lacks the warmth of a "film quality". The scan lines are too obvious on a 55" HD monitor and detract from the viewing experience. Additionally, the viewing angles are too obscure, and typically last for only seconds before a zoom in/out, angle change, or camera change. Continuity is not there. I prefer longer image lengths and a much less sharp image - i.e. Talking Head's Stop Making Sense or String Cheese's efforts.

I'm not complaining, and love the band. I could not wait to get this DVD, and pre-ordered it from the band. It is even a limited edition copy signed by each of them. Again, I am happy just to have a DVD to accompany my 12 CDs and 100's of hours of audience recordings. I can easily look over the video issues. Overall, a very grateful moe.ron.

4.0 out of 5 stars moe DVD is good but the same show on HDTV was better, April 16, 2007
This review is from: Moe: Live From the Fillmore (DVD)
All it all, I really enjoyed this capture of a moe event. One thing I should note, I have previously seen them on HD TV and recorded the show on my set top box. The quality of the show on HD TV was/is excellent particularly the video portion. I then bought this DVD and discovered it was the same show. I noticed to my surprise that the quality of the video on the DVD didn't hold a candle to the same show that I recorded off of HD TV. It's not my gear since I have many rock shows on DVD that are of phenomenal video quality. Did someone at the production company cut costs on this disc? Seems like it to me. Still, a great show. Buy it anyway.

3.0 out of 5 stars Another cheaply produced crappy concert video., April 26, 2009

This review is from: Moe: Live From the Fillmore (DVD)
PRO: A live moe. concert video, filmed in wide screen and 5.1 sound, with a decent set list.

CON: Another cheap and nasty concert video with poor production qualities.

It is a major trend for bands to get out a DVD. But, they are always done cheaply. A film crew, that has no idea what the band is about is hired to film the video. They set a number of cameras and microphones and let the band play. Then, they go into a studio and quickly edit the video. They do pans, scans and zooms. They never focus on the right part of the band at the right time.

Problems with this video:

1. The biggest problem is that you never get a feel for this band. This video makes the band seem like it is just Al and Rob and that Chuck is a paid extra. There does not seem to be any chemistry...which defies what the music is like.

2. The scenes are always panning, scanning and zooming. There are many shots of the audience. The camera never concentrates on a band member during a solo. You might as well just have a collection of photos of the band.

3. The audio mix is horrible. Chuck is mixed way too low. You cannot hear him at times. Even during his solos, his guitar is too subdued.

If a band has only one DVD, you would hope that it is of quality that matches the band's music.

This DVD comes in stereo, DTS or Dobly. I found the Dolby to be a little better than the DTS.

The concert is a little over 2 hours, which is short by moe. standards. Typically, they play closer to 3 hours. Like most concert videos, you have to get through about 2 minutes of menus, and have to chose if you want to something besides stereo. The Cream video is fantastic. You put it in your player and it just starts playing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Jam Band, January 14, 2009

I happened to catch the last song of this concert on HD Theater channel and liked it enough to buy this DVD. I had heard of Moe before, but never checked out their material. I don't understand how I haven't heard more about them - they are an awesome jam band. And the video and audio quality on this DVD are very good. Highly recommended if you like talented instrumental jam sessions.

2.0 out of 5 stars BAD B.C I CANT HEAR AL, A LEAD GUITARIST, July 13, 2007
This review is from: Moe: Live From the Fillmore (DVD)
It is a decent introduction into moe.'s style, yet a huge portion of their sound is missing!! I CANT HEAR AL! A major guitarist in moe. is nearly entirely inaudible, leading to a huge misout in their overall sound. with chuck and al always playing off eachother flawlessly, you cant hear anything but chuck, even when only al is playing its very hard to hear. overall i still like the dvd and moe.rons should/could get it, cept al is really missed out in it

3.0 out of 5 stars moe. DVD review, January 15, 2007
This review is from: Moe: Live From the Fillmore (DVD)
The quality of the sound and video is great on this DVD. I think the show is pretty average but this is the only moe. DVD, so if you want to see them live buy this DVD or go to a concert.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazon.com is A-OK!, January 15, 2007

I honestly cannot say how the product is, I ordered it as a gift for my grandson, obviously, it's okay, I haven't heard any different, and believe me, he would have complained had it not been good. I will say that I recieved it quickly and was satisfied with my online experience with Amazon.com. Sincerely, Julia Fausak
